is a Russian contemporary artist. She is one of the most original multidisciplinary artistic figures in modern Russia, who provides artistic practice in the field of performance art and sculpture. Sasha Frolova is widely known for her inflatable sculptures and costumes from latex. Author of Aquaaerobika project synthesizing performance art and electronic music. Sasha Frolova defines herself as a visionary artist. In her work, she tries to anticipate the future by creating its innovative aesthetics today. Her sculptures and performances are characterized by flexibility, mobility, fluidity — properties that will determine the life and modus operandi of future generations. In her works the artist combines ironic reflection of the modern world and epicurean sensuality, eccentricity and philosophical meditativeness. Sasha Frolova’s sculptures are an attempt to hear the poetry of form and see its movement. Consciously using latex and different kinds of polymer films for her works, she rejects traditional heavy sculpture and creates unique weightless monumentality, inherent only to her language and microcosm. In fact, she creates her sculptures out of air, enveloping it, giving the formless object volume, texture and density. Inflatable objects fascinate by their fragility and ephemerality, emotionality and positivity. They create the feeling of living beings, soft and warm and the smoothness of the material resembles skin. Working in the direction of a post-pop visual language, she tries to find her own unique approach to creating shape using biomorphic, fluid and simplified geometric abstractions.

For , GALLERY MALINA presents the artist in the exhibition WUNDERKAMMER.
„Wunderkammer“ literally translates to „cabinet of curiosities“ and refers to collections of unusual, rare, and curious objects. These were popular in royal and aristocratic homes throughout Europe during the Renaissance and Baroque periods. Frolova’s Wunderkammer includes sculptures, lenticular prints, video works, photographs, and sculptural costumes from various series. Her works have been exhibited worldwide and she has already collaborated with Jean Paul Gaultier, Tim Walker, and Dolce & Gabbana.

Inspired by natural, biomorphic forms, she favors flowing, curved lines, bold colors, and captivating abstractions. Her figures resemble living beings with flawless skin, soft contours, and a warm, sensual aura. In 2023, she was invited by Jean-Paul Gaultier to design costumes and sets for the grand show „FALLING | IN LOVE“ at the world-famous .palast and some of these costumes and photographs of them are presented in the exhibition WUNDERKAMMER.

The artist is fascinated by the idea of synthesizing classical and contemporary art and reinterpreting classical material. For many years, she has been intensively engaged with the Baroque period and doctrine of affections. She is drawn to baroque voluminous, rounded forms, to their splendor, finesse, and somewhat exaggerated nature. In her sculptures, she makes visible what is normally amorphous and elusive: emotions, feelings, and sensations.
The exhibition also includes several lenticular prints. It is a special hologram-like medium that creates the illusion of depth and volume due to special plastic lenses. Since 2020, Sasha Frolova has been creating lenticular prints based on her sculptures and costumes, depicting them as stereoscopic images.

Frolova’s artworks possess remarkable energy, yet are fragile and ephemeral. They are also imbued with profound emotionality. Existing in a parallel world of dreams and fantasies, they simultaneously offer an ironic commentary on the realities of today’s world.

The exhibition I AM... focuses on the slow-fashion label l’amour est bleu by designer and founder Thien Huynh. Her fashion explores the changing role of women in contemporary society. Due to the diverse expectations of society, fashion, and the media, women grow into various roles throughout their lives. From a 21st-century perspective, the question arises as to what extent these role models are imposed or freely adopted, and what would ultimately remain if women were to break free from all these roles? The contemporary feminist movement is characterized by digitalization, self-optimization, individuality, and diversity. Artificial intelligence-generated images of an absolutely flawless beauty ideal are disseminated on social media, which can lead to a negative self-image. Parallel to this is the movement of „female body positivity,“ which points to a distorted self-image poised between reality and surrealism and views the female body as an individual biography.

Beyond the socially constructed role of women, fashion, as a second skin, offers the opportunity to express feelings and individuality. In a constantly changing world where fashion is often expected to function merely as a means of expression, l’amour est bleu restores its sensual soul. The fashion brand was born from the desire to create special, long-lasting favorite pieces that are in harmony with nature and humanity.

The title I AM… invites reflection on one’s own identity and the completion of the sentence for oneself. From March 5th to 15th, 2026, GALLERY MALINA will create a space for interaction, where the connection between fashion and feminism will be explored and discussed from various perspectives.

VERNISSAGE
9. October 25
7-10 p.m.

The exhibition SEHNSUCHT explores the desire to find one’s own identity and the longing to be closer to distant places.

The artist Nina Kranz (*1988) is inspired by freedom, a thirst for adventure, and the joy of life. She transforms the impressions and experiences she gathers while traveling into powerful visual worlds that reflect the endless blue sea, the soothing sound of waves, or the magic of a sunset, evoking a sense of longing. In her series „Ocean, Sand & Sun,“ she combines painting with hand-painted pieces of wood: each piece is carefully arranged and fixed, creating harmonious compositions with interplays of light and shadow. As a former flight attendant, Kranz traveled extensively, always accompanied by a simple cotton cloth, which also found its place in her studio. Occasionally, even a grain of sand from afar remains on the canvas – silent traces of experienced moments. These details make her works distinctive and allow the energy of the moment to be palpable.

In addition to the need to travel, Alina Naomi (*1991) explores her heritage in her bead paintings. For her, each bead is an element in the pattern. Alina Naomi’s roots on her father’s side lead to the Seminoles, a North American indigenous people with their own craft tradition. Beads were far more than just jewelry there, as they embodied identity, history, and belonging. The art of bead weaving, the combining of individual elements into a harmonious whole, is not just a craft for Alina Naomi, but a legacy that she carries on. She has recently expanded her artistic practice to include wall art. These works are closely connected to her jewelry: they incorporate the materials, color schemes, and precious metals with which she also works in small-scale pieces. This creates a fascinating dialogue between jewelry, beadwork, and cultural heritage—between personal history and contemporary expression.
