With my design background, it has always been a goal of mine to produce a small collection of product that I believe in - stay tuned for the release of my organic cotton jersey accessories!

Thank you for all of your support (especially to my volunteer clients from 2020, you helped me realize my FULL potential)!

Kommentiere unten!

Got another baby on the way and want to improve your current sleep situation? Let’s do it!

This mama made a successful transition from co-sleeping to crib in a short period of time - if you are afraid of making this transition, let’s talk about it! (She even got the dog out of the bed - but you’ll have to ask HER how she did that idk 🤷‍♀️😂)

BTW - I have nothing against co-sleeping, I believe it’s totally fine if you are doing it safely! But I will say, it just needs to work for everyone - parents ans child(ren). And if everyone is awake the whole night...well, maybe it’s time to change things up!

There is no “one size fits all” solution to transitioning from co-sleeping to the crib or nursery, so let’s talk about it! Comment down below if you are ready to make a step like this but not sure where to start! 👇

Stroller, Pram, Buggy, Kinderwagen - whatever you call it, we are gonna talk about it today!

First off - I want to say that if stroller naps are working for you, then by God, keep doing it and don’t listen to me!

But as a veteran stroller-zombie-mom, I ALSO want to say : there is hope for you!

Stroller naps are GREAT for newborns, or when mom needs to run errands, or when baby just WON’T go down for that last nap - but after a while, is it really sustainable for you as a mom to be pushing the stroller around 2-4 times a day for hours at a time? My opinion is NOPE!

Sure, the stroller creates a cozy, womb-like atmosphere and the constant rolling motion makes it very, very easy to fall asleep. But…at some point, your little one might grow out of this phase…and that’s when you’ll know that stroller naps probably aren’t your best bet anymore…and that’s ok!

Let’s start off with the FACT that the AAP recommends to move your baby to a firm sleep surface on his or her back as soon as possible If your baby falls asleep in a stroller, carseat, carrier, swing, etc.

Well thanks AAP, how else am I supposed to get my kid to nap?

Let’s start small :

👉Start with one nap a day in the crib....you will get there!

👉Be consistent - stick to a loose nap schedule - identifying your little ones’ nap cycles will make it easier to know when to put them down

👉Have a good nap routine in place - a mini bedtime routine, if you please

👉Help your little one with self soothing skills - you can implement a sleep training technique - not sure what to do? That’s where Whitney can help!

👉If your little one is STILL fighting the afternoon nap - you can TRY to get a catnap in the stroller, or better yet --> MOVE UP BEDTIME by 30 to 60 min!

I get it guys…naps are hard! But once you help your little one take naps in the crib, think of all the time you could spend getting those important things done you always wanted to (like folding the laundry and watching Netflix….amirite?)

We all have expectations of baby sleep when we become parents…that our little ones will be good sleepers without much interference from mom or dad….that once our babies start sleeping through, we won’t ever have to worry about night wakings again…

Here’s the thing…sleep is not linear! Read that again parents….there are going to be valleys and mountains on this so-called sleep journey! Don’t forget, babies are humans too, and go through the same developmental milestones as any other child. There is no need for alarm if your perfectly sleeping angel is all of a sudden fighting bedtime or waking in the night - just remain consistent and everything will fall back into place eventually!

And if baby really needs you —> show up for them! Is baby sick? —> give them comfort with extra cuddles! Did your little one have a nightmare? —> help them calm down and remind them everything is ok!

I promise, if you take my advice and stay consistent, your little one be back to sleeping in no time!

To any mom that has purchased a plan from me, one of the first things I say is —> as long as you remain consistent, then you will see results!

Now, there are a lot of struggles when it comes to remaining consistent in your parenting choices. More often than not, parents will give in or give up (if it gets them from A to B faster) - it takes a lot of strength and patience to remain consistent and most of us are really just trying to get through the day - but the more you REHEARSE something your little one, they will start to INTERNALIZE these steps, and soon, REPEATING those steps will become second nature.

When it comes to sleep, creating a consistent routine around bedtime and nap times will offer your child not only a sense of security…but your little one will soon begin to pick-up on what is expected from them and tend to be less cranky or irritable before bedtime. But honestly, having a consistent routine helps me keep my sanity as a mom!

But how exactly can you stick to a consistent routine? :

1.KNOW YOUR SCHEDULE - if you are already dialled into your little one’s natural wake and sleep cycles, write it down and make your daily schedule based around that!
2.SOLID BEDTIME AND MORNING TIME - Try putting your little one down and wake them up at the same time every day - this will help make your schedule more predictable!
3.BEDTIME ROUTINE - of course, your child’s bedtime routine will change over time, and you will add and subtract things here and there, but try keeping at least a few things (brushing teeth, story time, etc.) standard
4.SET REALISTIC EXPECTATIONS FOR YOUR LITTLE ONE - if, for example, you expect your child to brush their teeth before heading off to bed without your assistance, make sure they are fully capable of doing so - start small
5.COMMUNICATE CHANGES TO THE ROUTINE - ok, not every day will be perfect - but if there is an activity or outing that has to be made, tell your little one before hand and give them time to interpret what that means and how things will change
6.“SLEEP CRUTCHES” - if your little one was falling asleep independently and all of a sudden hits a milestone or a regression and it calling out for you - con’d in comm

I don’t know about you guys, but I have some definite water babies on my hands! Some nights, I actually have to pry them out of the tub!

Having bath time as part of your bedtime routine is a something I would recommend including! Newborns are used to being propelled in warm fluid in the womb, so a bath can be very relaxing and help them become sleepy. Actually, once your little one is out of the tub, their core body temp automatically lowers and signals the body that sleepy times are ahead!  You certainly don’t have to do baths everyday, but consider the following :

Put bath time towards the beginning of your routine - after dinner and before your little one is getting too tired

Make sure the water temp is somewhere around 37C (98-100F)

If your little one is uncomfortable, try putting a washcloth over their stomach

If your little one is way too tired that night, it’s ok to skip bath time!

On the days you don’t want to bathe your kiddos, try whipping them down with a warm wash cloth

If your little one is developmentally ready, add some bath toys in the mix - just make sure they can drain to prevent mold growth (yuck)

Make sure you have a warm cozy towel ready for them when they get out

For newborns, I wouldn’t recommend putting them in any seats or positioners - just use your arm!
Their head should rest on your forearm, and your hand should be grasping the top of their bicep - you can wash them with the other hand

Your little one’s skin is soooo sensitive - for newborns, aim for bathing once a week (as long as the dried umbilical chord has fallen out) and max 3 times a week for older babies (especially in the winter months…too many baths can dry out the skin).  Newborns don’t actually need soap - but I know this doesn’t stop many parents lol….just choose something that is mild and friendly. You can follow up with something natural like cold pressed olive oil or almond oil

Anyways….happy bathing!

An aspect of parenting that isn’t really talked about seriously is sleep deprivation. Sure, parents will joke about running on fumes or rely on several shots of espresso to get through the day….but, just how much sleep is considered too little?

For adults to function at their best, 6 hours of sleep is the MINIMUM. This number can be hard to hit if you have a toddler getting out of bed all night long or a baby who needs to be nursed or bottle fed all hours of the night. After months and months of getting only short sprints of sleep, parents can start to feel broken in more ways than one.

This isn’t necessarily new information though - a January 2019 study published by Oxford University Press (on behalf of the Sleep Research Society) found that for both moms and dads, sleep still hadn’t returned to pre-pregnancy levels six years after having their first child.

Truthfully, a lack of adequate sleep will do a lot more than leave dark circles under your eyes. It can effect, your cognitive and physical wellbeing.

Sleep deprivation affects our decision making abilities, can cause weight gain, can send individuals into depression, leads to more marriage/partner disputes, causes anxiety …

I find it very hard to be present and joyful as a mom if I’m in a zombie like state - which is why I took the bull by the horns and turned things around for my family for the better!

You know….I get it….my approach and techniques aren’t for everyone! For those who want to reach their sleep goals in another way, my best advice to you is to take shifts with your partner, or find a secondary care-giver who can help you with your littles while you get some much needed rest.

But - if you are walking to the nursery several times a night, only to end up with your kiddos in bed with you tossing and turning the whole night….if a 4 am wake-up call is your new normal….if you are finding yourself at a new all-time low and breaking down due to lack of rest….If you aren’t sure where to start and what is best for your family….let’s have a chat! I’m always happy to listen and offer insight! Stay strong parents!

A lot of moms have been asking me lately about white noise - why we use it for our girls and how it helps!

Did you know that in the womb, baby is constantly surrounded by noise? : from Mamas beating heart, to the sound of nutrients rushing through the umbilical cord, it is LOUD. In fact, studies show that it is loud as a vacuum cleaner!

So, when baby arrives in our world, the silence can actually be foreign and uncomfortable for baby.

Playing white noise at around 65 dB can help soothe baby and boost sleep! The even frequencies of white noise emulate what baby hears in Utero. Try using white noise for naps and night (yes, all night long) if baby is waking at that 40 min mark or constantly throughout the night.

There are a lot of white noise machines on the market...a few tips : don’t buy one with LED lights or star effects...that’s distracting and over stimulating for baby. If they have a status light that you can’t turn off, tape over it with duct tape or black electrical tape.

You can also play this on a portable speaker from your smart phone via Spotify or YouTube : just MAKE SURE your notifications are turned off lol 😂 I wouldn’t recommend playing this from your phone though and putting it next to baby...phone = blue light = inhibits melatonin production = no more sleepy times!

Not sure which sound machine to get? DM and I will help you find the best one on the market. I have a few favorites :)
