Old-world construction meets the heavier denim that would define the 501® for decades. Reproduced stitch for stitch from the original 1942 501®.
Made in Japan from Japanese denim. Hand-numbered limited-edition.
In 1942, with America on the threshold of full wartime mobilization, the 501® was quietly undergoing a transformation of its own. Heavier denim fabric was beginning to replace the lighter weights of earlier decades. But the construction details of an older era had not yet been stripped away. The result was a garment that existed in two worlds at once: carrying the fabrication of the future while still wearing the soul of the past.
The cinch back remains, complete with its buckle and a distinctive construction detail in which the left and right sides are sewn in opposing directions. The yoke seam runs inverted, sitting over the leg panel rather than beneath it. Hidden rivets, a single-needle arcuate, a single-sided Big E Red Tab, and the Two Horse leather patch round out a garment that reads as a precise artifact of its exact moment in time.
