WaveLights are animated LEDs that sync up with the music via a small microphone. I started this project mid 2020 to make my lock down time more interesting. The idea goes back many years to the roots of my interest in providing a visual club experience that was more synesthetic by syncing up to the music coming directly from the DJ mixer. In the mid 90ies I was performing in techno clubs in Frankf

urt/Main, Germany with my own software that was generating real time Video which was going out to projectors. Between 1999 and 2004 I was part of SONOLUCA, a collective dedicated to interactive video installations and club visuals. We developed a software called "Klangfarben" which was the heart of out projects. Zooming forward a few decades and the old spark is coming back in a new form factor - it is incredible how affordable high quality RGB LEDs have become! Thanks for reading and keep watching this channel as I will be posting more videos - also recordings from my long gone VJ days...

I've had a lifelong passion for synesthesia, the idea that music has color and sound has shape.
VJ and AV installation founder in 1999.
Color scientist in Hollywood for 12 years. And the whole time I was trying to find the right answer.
Club Quarantine inspired a mood lamp for people who missed the dancefloor. LumiBand is what came next.

No companion app, no locked-down commands. Just Web Bluetooth, a UUID, and whatever you want to build on top of it.

How LumiBand reacts to sound

No amplifier circuit. No wireless latency. Just a microphone on the board listening to everything around it.
At festival volumes, the raw signal is more than enough — and the band reacts to every beat in real time.
