HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THIS?
It all started while looking for christmas presents in December 2017. We realized that there is a million socks out there in a million colors with a million designs, but none of them help us master the existential questions that we all face every day…
And you might say, that it’s absolutely ok for socks to just fulfill their normal sock duties plus maybe add a little fun - but we think that you should hold your socks to a higher moral standard! At least that is what we wanted to do…
So we started thinking about how socks can help us, by not only keeping our feet warm and sweat free, but also bringing some more thought, reflection and meaning into our lives... That’s how we came up with the idea of Philosophy Socks - “the socks your feet would buy if they were a bit more educated.”
Often it does not take reading a full book with Senecas reflections to get perspective and introduce more calm and mindfulness into everyday life. What it takes is a little reminder every once in a while that we cannot control the world, but we can control our perspective. And this is where Philosophy Socks comes in - every morning when you put on your socks and every evening when you take them off you get that little boost of deepness that we all need… And during the day they can serve as a reminder for you and a fun conversation starter for others!
WHAT ABOUT THE SOCKS?
Of course you agree with us that having socks that speak to your intellect is a great idea, but you also want to know more about the socks themselves, their essence or soul so to speak…
And that is very understandable!
We think that philosophical socks also need some ethics, so we have found a small sock factory in Turkey run by two brothers who use fair methods of production. Here is a picture of the two and some pictures from the factory:
They really liked our idea and produced some prototypes for us - the ones you see on the images throughout this page.
The materials used for the socks are organic cotton and deep thoughts. The socks are the highest quality out there - they might not survive as long as the ideas they are carrying, but they will be with you for a long time nonetheless.
