The lonely tree 🌲

Last year’s shoot took us through the incredible variety of Olympic Park — from lakes and sculptures to quiet hills.
But our starting point was this tree. Known as The Lonely Tree or Hallonamu, it’s one of Seoul’s instagram spots.

A single tree standing on a wide hill, surrounded by the city’s rhythm.
Its story goes back to the 1986 Asian Games and the 1988 Seoul Olympics, when over thirty houses were cleared to create this park.
This tree remained — a living witness to transformation, resilience, and the enduring power of nature.

Today, it stands as a reminder that even in constant change, something rooted can still hold its ground.

And maybe that’s exactly why life in Seoul fascinates me so much.
It’s a city of contrasts — where entire neighborhoods were once cleared for global sporting events, taking homes and histories with them.
And yet, at the same time, so much care and intention is poured into preserving a single tree on a hill.

Na‑Bi means butterfly in Korean.

It’s the symbol of this collection — a simple idea of transformation. The way something soft becomes strong, and something familiar becomes new.

The butterfly can be a gentle reminder that change doesn’t have to be dramatic. Sometimes a shift in direction is enough to grow — slowly, with intention.

When I think about the transformation from caterpillar to butterfly, it’s mostly about patience. About trusting the process, even when nothing seems to happen on the outside. And maybe that’s why Na‑Bi feels so right for this season.
