Subtle Knotz intertwines the hand-knit tradition with nature and people, so that heritage and sustainability balance each other. The underlying principle is that everything is interconnected in nature and balance needs to be maintained.

We have redesigned the traditional fast fashion business models and created a value chain that moves away from over-production in order to ensure continuity, sustainability and ethics.

Did you know that our garments are knitted using a circular knitting technique which creates a seamless tube structure? This means that at the end of the life of the garment, the different materials can be easily separated and new life can be given to them, contributing to a circular economy ♻️

Fast fashion has made so many of us be drawn to machine-made garments that are perfect in every way, but have lost their natural and human elements. It prevents us from embracing imperfections and genuineness.

The beauty of a hand-knit garment is that each stitch is unique as each knitter has a unique style of knitting, so no two garments although the same style are truly the same. I am drawn to perfect imperfections, as they are a sign of human touch and life, which gives each garment its uniqueness and particularity.

Through Subtle Knotz, I not only aim to keep the hand-knitting tradition alive but also bring back human connection.

Our Astoria sweater draws inspiration from the Astoria Column in Oregon. This monument is a unique work of art, and its spiral structure has inspired the twisted cable rib stitch that has been used in this sweater. In addition, the moss stitch perfectly complements the cable stitch to create this roll-neck, raglan-sleeved sweater, that is cozy, full of warmth, and engenders ‘hygge’ – the state of being content. The sweater also comes with a sash to give you a snug and comfortable fit.

At Subtle Knotz, only 100% natural materials (wool and cotton) are used, and preference is given to the use of monomaterials, where an entire garment is made of a single fibre composition keeping in mind longevity and end-use.

Natural materials are renewable and biodegradable, but by using monomaterials we are ensuring ease in the maintenance of the garments, re-use, effective disassembly as well as recycling of the garments.

In addition, the materials used are organic, where animal welfare is ensured and every process from the source of fibre to spinning, dyeing, etc. is Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certified.

When I was a baby, all my garments were hand-made by my grandmother, who is exceptionally skilled in knitting and crocheting. She created heirlooms which could be passed on from my generation to the next.

As a tribute to my grandmum and the fond memories, it is my intention to bring back the slowly dying tradition of hand-knitting, as well as heartfelt human connection.

In addition, sustainable natural materials, animal welfare and empowering the less fortunate have always been something very close to my heart. So why not keep the hand-knitting tradition alive whilst implementing various subtle but effective choices to responsibly produce garments in order to reduce the negative impacts on the environment and simultaneously help support the hand-knit artisan community?

All of this inspired me to found “Subtle Knotz”.
