A small change has taken place at the exhibition over the past week. Some podiums have been removed, and several works have found new placements—or have left the space altogether—to make room for next week’s Icelandic election at the Embassy.

The two quiet corners that once held the Aska urns and A Peaceful Place have now been transformed into polling booths (kjörklefar) for Icelanders in Denmark coming to cast their vote.

The yellow Dundur bench has also left the exhibition. It could have stayed outside during opening hours, but it would have needed to be brought in every evening. As I’ll be taking a bit of holiday next week and can’t be at the Embassy each day to move the bench in and out, it felt more sensible to let it leave the exhibition a little early. Who knows if the yellow Dundur bench might return for the last 10 days of the exhibition?

For those wondering what the election is about: Icelanders are not voting on whether to join the European Union. They are voting on whether to open negotiations to explore the terms of possible EU membership. Any decision on joining the EU would come later and would require a separate vote.

You can still come by and experience the rest of the exhibition until 12 August. I hope you’ll stop by before it closes.
