Toxic gas thick enough to rust a steel cable in a week. High winds. Humidity. He still walked away with clean audio.

Meet Kevin Bellante — production sound mixer.

Volcano rims in Nicaragua. Rainforests in Brazil. A feature film shot inside a Boeing 777 at cruising altitude.

When the captain killed all wireless mid-flight, he hardwired the lavs straight into the recorder and kept rolling.

So what’s in his desert-island bag?

Sanken COS-11s with Lav Concealers. A Spacer Bubble on the boom.

On the gear he refuses to shoot without:
“The expendables I use the most are the Lav Concealers.”

Every sound recordist has at least one shoot that they’ll never forget.

Poul shares one of his stories. A mistake that put the whole shoot on pause.

You can’t reschedule the weather. So Poul didn’t try.

The Windbubble does its job in the open - fur to slow the wind down, a pocket of dead air to keep the capsule quiet. Real streets, real wind, real audio. New York just proved it again.

Yesterday you heard the difference. Today we show you how to build it.

That clean concealed lav wasn’t luck. It was a half-windbubble — low enough to vanish under fabric, enough coverage to kill the wind that wrecks a bare capsule.

Poul walks you through the whole rig. No special tools, no guesswork. Four parts, same setup we used in the test: Lav Concealer Tape and Invisible Lav Tape to lock it down clean, the Lav Concealer to hide it, and a Piece a Fur on top to beat the wind.

What does wind protection actually do? Let’s hear it.

Poul rigged two concealed lav mics on his shirt - identical setup, one simple difference: one’s protected from wind, the other isn’t.

Same wind, same moment, side by side. Sound speaks for itself 🎧

Most delivery formats are still 24-bit or 16-bit, so that 32-bit float file gets converted down — and the moment it does, noise gets added.

That’s called dithering — adding a small amount of gentle noise on purpose, because it sounds more natural than the harsh distortion you’d get otherwise.

Can you even tell the difference? 👇

If you’re a content creator or shoot video with the RØDE Wireless Pro, this is how you save your audio in windy conditions — all while keeping the mic hidden from camera. It’s just a few extra steps on set, but the payoff is clean, usable sound and zero time wasted fighting it in the edit.
