Zapraszamy na wyjątkowy Artist Talk online z Riiną Õun - estońską artystką, projektantką i badaczką materiałów! Jej prace, prezentowane na wystawie „Od rozkładu do nowej formy: biologiczne inspiracje w sztuce”, to fascynujące połączenie estetyki z ideą biodegradacji.

Spotkamy się, aby porozmawiać o jej unikalnym podejściu do sztuki, która jest tworzona z myślą o naturze i nie tylko ludzkiej publiczności.

W swojej twórczości Riina Õun kwestionuje konwencje, używając biodegradowalnych materiałów, takich jak fusy z kawy czy skorupki jaj. Opowie nam o swoich projektach z pogranicza sztuki i mody, takich jak kolekcje torebek „Flores”, które po użyciu mogą się rozpuścić, wracając do obiegu w naturze.

ENG: Art not just for human audience!

Join us for a unique online Artist Talk with Riina Õun - an Estonian artist, designer and materials researcher! Her work, presented in the exhibition ‘From decomposition to new form: biological inspirations in art’, is a fascinating combination of aesthetics and the idea of biodegradation.

We will meet to discuss her unique approach to art that is created with nature and often a non-human audience in mind.

In her work, Riina Õun challenges convention by using biodegradable materials such as coffee grounds and eggshells. She'll tell us about her art-meets-fashion projects, such as her ‘Flores’ bag collection, which can dissolve after use, returning to the natural cycle.

We'll also discuss ‘Art for non-humans’ - installations that are deliberately left outdoors to become food or shelter for animals, thereby celebrating the process of decay and transformation.

Meet an artist who creates garden gnomes that fertilise the soil!
Riina Õun will tell us about her philosophy of designing as a form of care for the environment and how she involves local communities in her projects.

17 years ago today I arrived in London with a one-way ticket and no real plan—a big leap into the unknown.

Being recognised as one of three best craftspeople for England Maker of the Year award by Heritage Crafts is an honour beyond my dreams!

This is an enourmous compliment to all of my work - from preserving and innovating the craft of hand-making leather gloves to biomaterials research and development, as well as sharing the knowledge all around the world.

I would like to thank my family in Estonia who have always made me feel like I have a place to return to, and their support has given me the courage to explore the world wider.
I would also like to thank the Heritage Crafts for supporting so many wonderful craftspeople and everyone who's helped me along the way to get here - it's been a journey full of challenges. Thank you so much!

My outfit tells stories from my past, present and future - the custom made boots I had made myself as a footwear designer and maker, bringing them along to London all those years ago.
