Some people become part of an image, an era and a culture.

Diablo was one of them.

His presence became forever connected to The Lost Angel, one of the most recognizable creations from Mister Cartoon’s world. But behind the character was a real man, with his own story and an authentic connection to the streets of Southern California.

Over time, his image came to represent much more than a character: neighborhood, tattoo culture, identity and memory.

🎬 CHICANO MOVIES — THE TAX COLLECTOR (2020)

Una historia oscura del East L.A., marcada por lealtad, familia, dinero y violencia.

Dirigida por David Ayer, The Tax Collector sigue a David y Creeper, interpretados por Bobby Soto y Shia LaBeouf, dos hombres encargados de cobrar el “impuesto” de las pandillas para una organización criminal de Los Ángeles.

La película mezcla códigos de barrio, cultura chicana, tatuajes, religión y una visión brutal de las consecuencias que llegan cuando el poder cambia de manos.

También destaca por un reparto con fuerte presencia latina y por una estética muy ligada al universo chicano de Los Ángeles.

Arrancamos esta serie con Good Charlotte y The Anthem, un tema donde la estética lowrider bike también encontró su sitio dentro del pop punk de los 2000.
Como extra, también destacamos la presencia de riders chicanos como Chris Delfosse, aportando autenticidad a esa conexión entre música, calle y cultura lowrider.

We kick off this series with Good Charlotte and The Anthem, a track where lowrider bike culture also found its place within early 2000s pop punk.

SERGIO SANCHEZ · BLACK & GREY ARTIST

Nacido en Ciudad de México y criado en Los Ángeles, Sergio Sanchez construyó su lenguaje entre dos mundos: la cultura urbana del sur de California y una sólida formación en dibujo y pintura académica.

Esa mezcla define su trabajo. Sus tatuajes combinan black & grey, realismo, surrealismo, anatomía y composición pictórica, con una manera de trabajar la luz y el volumen muy cercana a la pintura clásica.

Su trayectoria demuestra que el tatuaje puede dialogar con las bellas artes sin perder la fuerza visual ni las raíces que lo conectan con California.

SERGIO SANCHEZ · BLACK & GREY ARTIST

Born in Mexico City and raised in Los Angeles, Sergio Sanchez built his visual language between two worlds: Southern California street culture and a strong academic background in drawing and painting.

That combination defines his work. His tattoos blend black & grey, realism, surrealism, anatomy and painterly composition, with a strong understanding of light, volume and classical art.

His career shows how tattooing can connect with fine art while still maintaining the visual power and California roots that shaped his identity.
