In Greek mythology, Perseus beheads Medusa, the Gorgon, and in later interpretations the star Algol became symbolically linked to her still “blinking” head, due to its regular changes in brightness. This connection is what gave it the old name “Demon Star”, because of its unsettling appearance in the night sky.

Esa conexión dio origen a su antiguo nombre de “estrella demonio”, por su aspecto inquietante en el cielo nocturno.
