“The sentimentality and haunting nature of memory is the world I am drawn to. Beautiful things now decrepit, once cherished objects now paused in a parallel place, still existing but really inhabiting a long gone life.

My animals are the anthropomorphic bridge between human and creature, the past and present, and truth or dream. A melancholic yet enticing longing for ornaments our past generations loved, but which seem strange and awkward now, and have miraculously outlived their owners.

The stained and moth eaten fabrics, cracks and threads, shining eyes, all conglomerate to remind me of great grandparents time capsule dining rooms and Victorian grace now disintegrated.”

— Suzanne McRae

I deeply share Suzanne’s fascination with objects that have lived a previous life. With things that have once been cherished, used and eventually abandoned. With the traces that time leaves behind, and with that imperfect, strange and sometimes unsettling beauty of things that have managed to outlive those who once owned them.

And perhaps that is why, from the moment I discovered her work, I felt such a profound connection with her pieces and with the way she looks at the past.

Her animals seem to belong to another time and inhabit, as she herself says, a place between human and creature, between past and present, between truth and dream.

Today, I am so happy to introduce our collaboration and to have some of these wonderful creatures travel all the way from Australia to Bilbao to become part of the world of Deco for Curious.

The pieces are already in the shop and will also be available on our website very soon!

Today I turn 51.

I’ve always loved writing poetry, perhaps because it’s another way of putting into words what I feel.

Today, with no pretensions, I’d like to share one of my poems with you, written, like almost everything I do, from the heart. It speaks of something that, together with curiosity, is part of my very essence: passion.

Forgive the translation — poetry never sounds quite the same in another language.

What would I be if I had no passion?
How to explain the pain of living with passion,
how to know your feelings without listening to your heart,
how to speak of love without knowing surrender.

The very same passion that drives me down to hell,
lifts me up to the heavens
and makes me lose all reason.

They are the emotions of my soul,
the ones that cry out to me, claim me,
and take control.

Oh, what would I be without passion!

“ WALK. ALWAYS WALK. WALK WITH NO GOAL. NO DESTINATION.
NO TIMELINE. WALK WITH FRIENDS. WALK ALONE. WALK WITH MUSIC. WALK WITH SILENCE. WALK THE LONG WAY.
WALK WITHOUT YOUR PHONE.
WALK WHEN YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO NEXT. BECAUSE SOMEHOW, WALKING SHOWS YOU EXACTLY WHERE TO GO. “ - 𝗔𝗡𝗗𝗥𝗘𝗔 𝗖𝗢𝗦𝗧𝗔𝗡𝗧𝗜𝗡𝗜 .editorial
