✌🏼🏝️ Hi, I’m Nik - co-founder, art director and driving force behind Island Beast.

Growing up, my family and I would take at least 3 trips a year to the coast and beach somewhere. It has been my happy place for as long as I can remember.

In school pictures you could easily spot the tanned, sun bleached hair, surf-bracelet kid from afar in an otherwise middle of nowhere European hometown and school.

As I grew older and ventured to new and further shores, the happy place remained: beach life, the surf bubble, island life, sand between my toes, salty hair, waterlogged ears. It’s my home. It’s where I’m happiest.

I studied graphic design over in the UK and I’ve been working as a designer for almost 10 years.   On every trip I have been on growing up and now, I have always been fascinated by the lifestyle that comes with this bubble I call home. I have always been in awe of the brands that become a community of like-minded people.

It has always been a great dream and passion of mine to create such a community and outlet for my artistic drive and deep connection to sustainability.

With friends and family we have our fun doing something we call the “Island Count” in true Island Beast fashion: we keep tabs on how many islands we have been on! It always ends up in heated debates over what counts for an island and how long one has to technically be on it for it to count 😅.

An ode to…

…our beginnings in Bali 🏝️!

Our “Another Day in Paradise Tee” was actually one of the first designs as part of our first small collection produced in Bali when it all started for us down there.

It’s Fashion Revolution Week, and FRW starts with a simple question – who made our clothes?⁠ ⁠
 Let’s start with Natubi (second slide), organic cotton farmer with over 55 years experience. For as long as he can remember his family have been cotton farmers - he specialises in growing organic cotton. Although many people say farming organic cotton is worse for farmers as you get a lower yield, at a systemic level the story is different. Organic cotton sells for a far higher price. That means less work, for more money - positive for rural farmers in India. Organic farming also means his soil is high enough quality to grow edible crops, so during the off season he grows other things like onions, too.

⚡Little do you know...
.. that for different colour variations of designs we have to redraw the whole or most of the illustration!

For an illustration to work on both dark and light textiles, we have to rethink light/shadow and how to use the colour of the fabric itself for either light or dark colours.
