On September 11, we celebrate Enkutatash, the Ethiopian New Year, the first day of Meskerem and the beginning of a new year in the Ethiopian calendar. And if you’ve ever been in Ethiopia around this time of year, you know there’s a very special sign that the new year has arrived…
Adey Abeba (Bidens Macroptera), Ethiopia’s golden flower of renewal.
As the rainy season comes to an end, the delicate Adey Abeba bursts into brilliant yellow, also known as the Meskel flower, blooming almost as if the land itself is joining the celebration.
But this little golden flower symbolizes renewal, hope, faith, new beginnings, and the beauty of life continuing to unfold and ready for a new cycle.
