Our health system is failing us. Fiji government, I urge you and maybe youāre doing the best you can but please health care should also be a priority in this country!
About 8.50 last night, a dear close friend of mine had an episode - 5 tables away it looked like he fainted. Quick to responde Jo Carter and mea Black! a min Inn, started making calls for an ambulance! 9.04pm!!!!
I was told that all the ambulance was occupied at CWM, I get it! and I understand!
I replied is there anyone I can call, later she gave me a number and I had no idea it was the fire authority. (Thank you NFA, for at least responding!)
She then connected me to another call and all I could remember is, can you please send someone or anyone!
In the mean time assisting for mouth to mouth.
The phone was on speaker, on the floor and everyone that had helped and assisted kept him alive for 30 mins before fire authority came with the trolley and stretcher.
NOW HERES MY VENT!
Iām not blaming or pointing the finger here but to share some light ( because pardon my language, WHAT THE ACTUAL F**K!)
As a citizen of this country/ resident YES FIJI! (not by race or status) a concerned fellow human being born and bred here.
1. Fiji Government - I understand youāre probably doing the best you can! In however little way/big way youāre helping this country - but FIJI HEALTH CARE IS SO BROKEN!
It shouldnāt be a matter of if you can afford private hospital, youāll get the best care and if you canāt well thereās always CWM. - From personal encounters of CWM, Iāve experienced this before and all I can say is
DISSAPOINTING!
The doctors and nurses can only do what they can do best!
2. Grand Pacific Hotel, Suva - for a 5 star hotel and supposedly the best in Suva, your equipments are OUTDATED AF!
The manager on duty and the team did the best they could to assist, However shouldnāt you have a person always on standby who has basic knowledge to respond to this kinds of situations?! Better yet, UPDATE YOUR EQUIPMENTS! Because there was no doctor present at the event!
If anything, Management get your A into G ( again pardon my language for f**k sake! Itās the grand lady)
3. Ministry of Health & Medical Services - Fiji - Fiji St John Ambulance FIJI! When we drove back to GPH, Please tell me why 2 Ambulance truck was parked outside?!
Make it make sense?! ( I later shared this concern with a doctor and I quoteāwhen they say over the phone that the ambulance is occupied. They mean NO DRIVER, NO PARAMEDIC ON STAND BY)
Well thatās just great (pardon my language, for f**k sakes)
3. The fun part! I have no knowledge in CPR, but I do have common sense. Funny thing about common sense is, itās not so common is it?!
In these kinds of situations, if you can help in anyway please do so! If not the best way is move back, clear the space!!! Really any truly!
Donāt stand there and hover!!! Donāt take up space, time and energy for people who truly trying to help!!!
4. National Fire Authority, although you were all fire fighters, with no equipment just a transportation. From us to guys that responded to the 9.04pm call, Big Vinaka Vakalevu!!! For at least responding and making it!!!!!
Now you must be wondering why am I venting on a Sunday, why is it important to share this!
He was a dear friend of mine and this kinds of situations is faced everyday and Iām more disappointed of how things turned out.
You can say, itās his time or it was out of our control. Siggggghhhh
I get all that, I really do!
Before you start saying, we did the best we could.
Start asking the questions and create conversations about this!!!!
Speak up and hold those accountable in positions!because one day you might encounter a situation like this.
Iām not telling you to do your job, Iām reminding you what people face everyday and what could be done better! Health care should be a PRIORITY (better yet free if thatās possible?!)
Sa rauta mada na pump lavo Ike ika vei so na ga e sega saraga ni yaga! Kerekere - visit the hospitals and talk to them on their daily struggles because they need your support!
* Proper systems in place e ganiti Ike!
He fought for 45mins, the family was present and he wasnāt alone š
Sa ko ga ya! Blessed Sunday.
