A little background:
Koko is what Times New Roman looks like with a block serif.
Times took its transitional structure from Monotype Plantin, a sturdy reworking of Granjon’s sixteenth-century roman, then sharpened the serifs and narrowed the widths for newsprint. Koko reverses that evolution by swapping the newsprint serif for the squared, bracketed slab of Besley’s 1845 Clarendon. It keeps the vertical stress, moderate contrast, and editorial proportions of the line, then grounds them with sturdy stems and steady italics. A practical, weighty serif for mastheads, bylines, and long columns.
Original sketches started in 2020 and was reworked and evolved over the years with a big help from Finally released today after a few years oftesting and refinement.
