World is witnessing the historic Walk for Peace 🌍
On October 26, 2025, Fort Worth, Texas, quietly became the starting point of a journey that would stretch across the soul of America. Buddhist monks set out on foot toward Washington, D.C., walking nearly 2,300 miles as a living prayer for compassion, unity, and inner peace. This pilgrimage is not meant to oppose anything, but to remind a restless nation that peace begins with awareness and patience. The journey is expected to reach its final destination in February 2026.
The Walk for Peace began at the Huong Dao Vipassana Bhavana Center in Fort Worth under the guidance of Bhikkhu Pannakara. In the final days of October 2025, the monks moved steadily through Texas. Throughout November, they continued through Louisiana and Mississippi, where people quietly stood along highways and small-town roads, many with folded hands and tears in their eyes. As December arrived, the walk carried them through Alabama and Georgia, marked by long distances, cold mornings, and unwavering discipline.
By January 2026, the monks had entered South Carolina and North Carolina, before continuing into Virginia. Each step follows the ancient Buddhist practice of mindful walking, where awareness guides movement and intention remains pure. The monks carry no money and make no requests; food, water, and rest are accepted only when offered freely, transforming ordinary kindness into moments of deep human connection.
Walking faithfully beside the monks throughout the journey is Aloka, a gentle rescue dog whose presence has touched hearts across every state. From the warmth of autumn 2025 into the cold weeks of early 2026, Aloka has remained calm and devoted through long miles and changing weather. Children smile when they see him, elders pause in reverence, and strangers feel an immediate bond without a single word spoken.
As February 2026 approaches, Washington, D.C. stands ahead as a place of reflection rather than an ending. Upon arrival, the monks hope to encourage recognition of Vesak, the Buddha’s birthday, as a federal holiday. Vesak is recognized by the United Nations and observed worldwide as a day honoring peace, mindfulness, and compassion. Through this hope, the Walk for Peace invites the nation to pause and remember our shared humanity.
From October 26, 2025, through February 2026, the Walk for Peace continues to create a living timeline across the United States. It is measured not only in miles and locations, but in quiet tears, softened hearts, and moments that restore faith in human goodness. In a divided and fast-moving world, this journey stands as proof that peace still moves forward when it is lived sincerely, one mindful step at a time.
