“Dolce far niente” (Italian. The sweetness of doing nothing)
1. Sheer indulgent relaxation and blissful laziness, the enjoyment of idleness.
2. “The sensation when you sit at a bar in an Italian village while you drink coffe and watch the passersby. Time slows and for half a second you admire life in its simplicity, and you only want to smile.”(Maria Vittoria).
During our time sheltering in place, sometimes it’s good to savour in the joy of doing nothing. Life sometimes is a rat race and it may be beneficial for us to make use of this time of de-escalation that is forced upon us to simply do nothing, to just enjoy the moment and take the time to be present and notice things we haven’t previously. Without any pressure to go out maybe we can make use of this time to recharge our batteries, to unwind, to have a break, to shift our thoughts. And who else is better to look up to than the Italians with their slow-paced way of life, enjoyment of La Dolce Vita and appreciation of all things art and beauty.
