Blue Buryat Degel (“Deel” in Mongolian)

Along with my paper garments and objects, I also make modern Buryat–Mongolian dresses.

To keep traditional costume alive, we need to let it evolve and adapt. When it enters everyday life, tradition continues to live.

This dress is special for me.

A dress made from shōji-gami — paper traditionally used for Japanese sliding doors.
This piece was worn during my performance Traces, as a passage between interior and exterior worlds.

The wrinkles created through dance and movement became a way of documenting life , just as our skin records our habits, gestures, and time.

Metaphorically, life is constantly forming expanding paths, interconnecting with people, feelings and the world in all its forms.

Here is my new interview at .bycrowds

A conversation about movement, memory, and the way materials hold traces of our lives. I speak about Traditional Futures, my Buryat heritage, and why paper —" fragile", resilient, alive — has become a central element in my work.

It’s a little dive into my process, my questions, and the world I’m creating.

Thank you Nabila for a wonderul interview.

Embroidered path.

Embroidered piece on a handmade paper created from recycled Icelandic vintage paper bobbins — the recycling idea came from , thank you for this beautiful suggestion.

The process had many steps in time. First, the casting form was made on a CNC milling machine. Then the old paper bobbins were recycled into pulp, and this pulp was cast into the form. After drying, the piece looked back at me and quietly asked for embroidery. Materials often talk to me — they ask for something, or they tell me what to do. Does anyone else feel this with their materials?

This is my first embroidery on paper. For this one, I wanted to keep it very discreet, in the same color as the paper, so you only notice it after half a second… a small, gentle surprise.

This piece is dear to me as it was made at my spare time out of work at that I miss very much 🤍

TELLURIC — A Journey of Paper from Earth to Garment

April 8–13, 2025 · Zona K, Via Spalato 11, Milan

TELLURIC transforms textile waste into paper garments — bridging ancestral craft and contemporary innovation.
At the heart of the project is an open-source Hollander Be**er machine, designed and built by Mekanika.

A collaboration between Traditional Futures and Mekanika, supported by the WORTH Partnership Project,
TELLURIC reimagines material life cycles — from cloth to fiber to paper to garment — and back to earth again.

Come discover the process, the garments, and the machine that brings it all to life.

As promised, here are some of the very first small paper samples I made — little and precious beginnings.
Now, I'm experimenting with much larger ones to create garments that will be shown at Milan Design Week together with .io  and

What fascinates me is how paper holds memory — it remembers every fold, every gesture, every transformation.
It may seem fragile, but it holds incredible strength.

It's my favorite material to work with — modest and strong.
Big love 🤍

Continuing my series on works created with various machines.
This piece was made using an embroidery machine at . While I deeply admire and practice traditional hand embroidery, which can take days to complete, I also appreciate the possibilities offered by digital tools.

The process started with a digital file—specifically, a photo I took years ago of a sculpture of Aphrodite. From there, it was transformed into this embroidered piece. The base fabric is Icelandic wool from Johanna, which I felted using a felt loom (more on that in a future post!).

What do you think? Do you prefer hand embroidery or machine embroidery—or maybe both?
