A short extract from the video made for 50th Anniversary Charity Project - “Passing on the creativity of designers living in the present to the future.”
For this project, we were interested in the idea of how a form, and the thinking behind it, can continue across different moments in time.
The work brings together an original pair of Palombaro diving shoes, an early Guidi PL2 from 2013SS and a new PL2. What connects them is not only the silhouette itself, but the persistence of a certain intention. The original diving shoe represented something direct and necessary: stability, weight, resistance, an object designed with a precise purpose. This aspect became one of the starting points for Guidi’s interpretation of the PL2.
The presence of the archive pair is particularly important within this passage. Time has visibly transformed it - the material aged, marked and altered naturally over the years. Rather than treating these changes as damage, we wanted to preserve them as part of the object’s existence, almost as evidence of its journey between past and present.
The project is ultimately less about nostalgia and more about continuity. About how ideas can survive through transformation without needing to constantly reinvent themselves.
What we hope to leave to future generations is the importance of approaching creation with attention and honesty: learning to recognize the value already contained within functional objects, materials and lived experiences, and understanding that innovation does not always come from chasing the new, but sometimes from observing more deeply what already exists
