When I (Sheikh Ibra Faal) was first introduced to the Sheikh, I told him: “The only reason why I left my house was to seek a guide, a bearer of a beam of light that could lift me from darkness and unveils the light of truth. I think that if I had not found such a guide but just his tomb, the sincerity of my quest and my willingness to follow his example would have helped me reach my goal. I pledge before you that I will devote all the remaining time of my life in this world to the exclusive quest of God and (salvation) in the hereafter [through your guidance].” Amadu Bamba responded with these words, “[ . . . ] I accept your pledge and urge you to obey God’s recommendations, to avoid His interdictions, and to devote all your life to seeking His pleasure.”
