Happy Mother’s Day to my fabulous Mum, pictured third from left. If it weren’t for your pioneering efforts in 1964, our mini skirts wouldn’t be nearly short enough today! 😍😂

“Daily Mirror, Friday, November 4, 1966.

The analytical minds of Oxford, producers of philosophies on matters as diverse as how to run the country and s*x before marriage, converged on a near-microscopic issue last night: the mini-skirt.

In the Oxford Union debating chamber, the issue was:

“That this house believes the mini-skirt does not go far enough.” The views of most of the girls who attended, like those in this picture, were self evident.

The views of the men were expressed in the wish, for once not a comment on the speeches, “The shorter the better.”

But it was a night of ambiguity. The motion itself did not make clear which way it felt the mini-skirt should go.

Up—as worn by a girl “for” the motion, 20 year old Maria Warner.

Down—as worn by a 20 year old girl “against,” Emma Rothschild, of the banking family.

The mini-skirted above, from left to right, are Petronella Pulsford, 20; Gaynor Parsons, 21; Hilary Henson, 20; Daphne Dunn, 20; and Melonie Sandiford, 19. All, needless to say, are members of the Union.”

I'll be donating 15% of each sale in March to the Brooklyn Center Mutual Aid fund, which is currently providing direct support to protesters in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, in the wake of the horrific and senseless police murder of Daunte Wright. Funds will be used to provide PPE, medical supplies and food to people on the front lines of the resistance effort. They will also be distributed to families of color living in the vicinity of the police station.

Each month, I'll be donating a portion of the proceeds from all sales in the Etsy and Depop shops to an organization directly combating racism against BIPOC. As a white cisgender female with access to a digital sales platform, I benefit from many privileges. In order to truly dismantle systemic racism and inequality in this country, it is vital that each one of us, particularly those of us with unearned privileges due to our race, gender, s*xual orientation, or ability, commits to doing whatever we can to help balance the scales.

It’s feeling like spring in LA. Spend enough time in this seasonless city, and you learn how to notice and embrace the subtle hints (early morning sunshine, neighborhood trees bursting into bright pink blossom, the scent of jasmine on the breeze). Take a tip from the sixties style icon Jean Shrimpton and her brightly blossoming locks, and embrace this season of new growth, new beginnings, and freshly sprouting hope.

I'll be donating 15% of each sale in March (on Depop and Etsy) to Hate Is A Virus, which is working to address the rise in hate crimes against AAPI communities. Here's a summary of the organization's mission from their website:

"Hate Is A Virus is a nonprofit community of mobilizers and amplifiers to dismantle racism and hate. Started in 2020, Hate Is A Virus continues to amplify, educate and activate AAPI to stand for justice and equality in solidarity with other communities."

Each month, I’m committed to donating a portion of the proceeds from all Hollywould Vintage sales to an organization directly combating racism against BIPOC.
