This Friday we celebrated eleven years of Shopping For Happiness. As any small business owners, we are often asked why are we working so hard? Here is our answer.
We go to sleep happy knowing that what we sell brings you joy. We love to daydream. We often say: in this moment, someone is opening a gift that was bought in our store. A baby might take its first steps in a Maison Piou Piou Odile | Vêtements bébé | Cadeaux de naissance onesie. A fashionista is struggling to pick an outfit specially for one of our statement pieces, like Cecile’s hand-painted gold earrings Ceciliaartbiju. An artist is sketching their future masterpiece in one of our Ildi cover illustrated notebooks. A woman is walking the streets with one of Joanna’s J O A N N A B E H A R croissant hair clips in their locks and a stranger points all excited « hey, she has a croissant in her hair! ». A home thousands of km away, on another continent, is decorated with one of our illustrations Ildikó Szabó on the wall. A family is sharing a meal and the host proudly saids « this plate is handmade from Moldova Galerie Moldave Paris, we bought it in a tiny concept store in Paris ».
Someone is reading their future favourite book with one of ana’s ars__ana bookmarks in-between the pages. Someone is smiling in the morning when they see one of Julie’s Julie Petrolli cups in their cupboard.
SFH isn’t just a store, it’s a community. We are a very small team and we give a piece of our soul to every customer, because we are excited to celebrate life together.
People come back months and years after our first encounter and we recognise them !!!!!
We got to congratulate you on graduations, births, engagements, business deals. We also shared your grief and sometimes gave you a shoulder to cry on.
Our greatest wish is for our store to be like Dessie Hamilton’s Dress Shop, “a sanctuary where women could be themselves—smelly, wanton, mystic, conceited, truthful, and interested”.
Shopping For Happiness is grateful for your support because at the end of the day this is why we work so hard. For a space where you can find happiness.
