Our designs and collections started out from a conversation at a doorstep in Osu, in Accra, Ghana as a collaboration between Mr. Bola Bhadmus who is based there with his small creative workspace - and me, Lene Nortoft based in Aarhus, Denmark. We buy our fabric mainly at local markets in and around Accra but have started to buy from other parts of Africa too. The latest addition is an organic cott
on collection designed by me and produced by the small sustainable textile and slow fashion studio Xoomba in Burkina Faso. With a MA of Middle Eastern Studies and Anthropology from Copenhagen and Aarhus University, as a young student I was also an activist in the fair trade movement in Denmark, before we got the now well known logo for it. So naturally my approach was that of making a real difference for the manufacturers in Africa through this work. I was later to learn the scope of how big a change we can make through our fashion choices. And this is where you are also playing your part when you buy our designs. All our items now and in the future are a source of work and income for the people involved. We believe in the creation of jobs locally in Africa through fair trade. We are hoping to play our small part in creating a better and safer world together with you for people and planet. In danish:
Lene
