La Boutique Tusson

La Boutique Tusson French vintage and antique treasures: silver, ceramics, linens, furniture, paintings and much more. The building is a joy to work in.

Finding a beautiful vintage or antique item and having the opportunity to give it a new life...

I opened my shop here in the stunning protected village of Tusson, in the sunny Charente region of France where I live. My physical shop is in an ancient logis (small castle) in the centre of the village and I live close by. It houses the remains of a 15th century, huge, fireplace and a 17th century to

wer and is over the road from where Margerite of Angouleme (sister of the French king, Francois1) stayed many centuries ago. It is a very pleasant (very short) commute to work - a tranquil stroll across the square, around the corner to La Boutique Tusson. I have always loved collecting beautiful, old things and now I have 2 good excuses - my two shops! During the summer months here in France, I adore exploring local auctions, brocantes and vide greniers, where people literally empty their attics (and sheds and houses and barns..) to sell what they no longer want. There are often real gems to be found at these sales and I love the excitement of finding an old treasure and giving it a wonderful new life with a new owner, often even in a new country. What a lovely way to spend your time! Another of my favourite things is carrying out research on pieces that are new to me. One of our friends is a brocanteur, very useful, and there are wonderful books to help and,of course, the amazing world wide web! I decided to open my Etsy shop as an extension of La Boutique. I am very excited at being able to share my gorgeous treasures with people all over the world. As I spend lots of time searching for new finds for my shop, I am happy to search for that special something for you. If there is something specific you are looking for please let me know and I will do my best to help. I really hope that you all love looking the things in my shop. Feel free to ask me any questions you may have.

Pair of small floral paintings, signed and framed under glass, vintage French wall decor. This is a lovely pair of vintage small floral paintings. They have matching pretty frames, very ornate and decorative. I like these as the tiny details are well done and the style of each is slightly different

A simply stunning large and heavy footed planter with a ceramic bowl section. This wonderful piece would have been part of a three piece set for decorating

Not to be MISSED!! Tonight is the launch of the artist B Tow, at l'Échauguette. Come and see this talented artist's work in the first exhibition at l'Échauguette for several years. As usual with the launch of an art exhibition drinks and canapes will be plentiful and everyone is welcome.

It will give you chance to meet the delightful and interesting hosts of the tearooms, Christiane and Bernard. They both have illustrious careers in the performing arts. Christiane was a ballet dancer in Paris, and when they moved to Tusson nearly 20 years ago had a ballet studio fitted with a wooden sprung floor. This is were the exhibition will be held tonight. Here in Tusson, she taught ballet for a number of years. Christiane speaks excellent English as a result of her years spent ballet dancing.

Bernard was a very talented musician and played in backing groups of many famous musicians of the 1960s.

When in Tusson you must stop and have an ice cream, drink, hot, or cold, soft, or alcoholic and some of Bernard's freshly made gateau / cake that he bakes every day. Sit at a table on the quiet square outside of the l'Échauguette which is an idyllic spot. There is the lovely shade of the old trees under which you can escape the hot Charente sunshine. On the site is a centuries old walnut press still intact, where the walnut oil would have been extracted with the aid of a donkey.

Or, you can just contemplate, and perhaps study the wonderful stonework of the Renaissance built watch tower of l'Échauguette. Or look to the other side of the square and try and figure out what parts of the intricate stonework are from the 17th century shop that once existed there.

Every Sunday at 6pm a very agreeable group of English speakers meet to exchange pleasantries and have a drink in this wonderful square in the centre of Tusson. Feel free to come along and join in.

The opening hours for the l'Échauguette during July and August are: Wednesday to Sunday 2.30pm to 7.30pm,

Lovely Art Deco coiffeuse / dressing table for sale. It has marble top and mirror. Good vintage condition, there is a hair in the marble in the right hand corner at the back, and some foxing on the mirror.

It has dovetailed joints and fine detailing. Made in Angouleme, there is (very unusually) a maker stamp on the back - A. Dubois, Ameublement.

This would make a great up-cycling project. I really like it as it is but you could paint the dressing table if you chose.

65 euros
