Doidy STOCKISTS: Amazon, JoJo Maman Bebe, independent baby stores and our Official website

Cups are available in a rainbow of 17 colours and can be found in John Lewis, JoJoMamanBebe, Ocado, Sainsbury's and Amazon plus other baby, pharmacy and health outlets. The Cup was scientifically designed with its unique slant to teach infants to drink from a rim NOT a spout. Young infants (from around 3mths) find the two handled cup easy to drink from because:
1. there is no forwar

d or downward movement of the head
3. they do not have to tip the cup up as they can see the contents when drinking
4. it teaches them to drink from an open cup and also to put it down correctly
5.they will not overfeed, the baby sets the pace and the quantity

Mouth action:

Drinking from the DOIDY cup encourages good oral movements and helps to develop chewing skills as the jaw, tongue and mouth muscles are used. It also helps with hand eye co-ordination. Infants find this movement perfectly natural, therefore it is so easy to wean them from the breast or bottle
Breast fed babies from around 3 months or earlier can use a cup for expressed milk. There is no need to use a bottle for all liquids in the weaning process
Bottle fed babies should be introduced to a DOIDY cup at 6 months or earlier and all bottles should be discouraged after one year. Drinking from a bottle is the same mouth action as drinking from a spouted cup or beaker. For this reason the H.E.A have recommended the use of open cups since 1999. USER INSTRUCTIONS
When first using the cup use a small amount of liquid and hold the cup at the bottom. Place the rim on the lower lip to allow the baby to take what it wants. Around five months the baby will take the handles and try to feed themselves. From then the baby will move towards picking it up and putting it down independently. There may be some spillage but remember that this is the only way that babies learn. It is recommended when travelling that all drinks should be kept in a separate sealed bottle/container and the cup in a plastic bag and washed after use. Discard any drink that has been contaminated with saliva as it is open to bacteria

Chewing Tips to Support Your Baby’s Oral Development

Chewing is essential for developing strong jaw muscles, clear speech, and healthy eating habits. Here are 4 simple tips to help your baby master chewing skills safely and confidently:

1. Cut foods into suitable sizes.
Always offer foods in sizes appropriate for your baby’s age to reduce choking risks. Younger babies should start with small, soft foods they can easily manage.

2. Encourage slow and thorough chewing.
Guide your little one to chew slowly and carefully. This not only aids digestion but also strengthens their oral muscles.

3. Progress from soft to firmer textures.
Begin with softer textures, and gradually introduce firm textures such as "hard munchables" which are not for eating but rather for oral exploration. This can include whole raw carrots, beef jerky sticks and teething biscuits. These encourage your baby to explore different textures and build stronger oral muscles. These should be offered before meal times to gauge interest & always supervise your child closely for potential choking risks.

4. Let them chew on both sides.
Encourage your baby to alternate chewing between both sides of their mouth. This promotes balanced muscle development on both sides of the jaw and helps prevent uneven wear on emerging teeth.

These practical tips will help ensure your baby develops strong oral muscles, setting them on the path to confident chewing, clear speech, and healthy eating habits.

The Doidy Bowl is suitable for babies from around 6 months old, making it ideal from the start of weaning onwards. Its big 300ml capacity easily accommodates meals as your child grows, while its sturdy, stable base reduces tipping and spilling—giving your little one the confidence to explore eating independently.

Parents and health professionals trust the Doidy Bowl as a helpful bowl for supporting early feeding skills, motor development, and growing independence, making it a favourite choice throughout the early years.

Why choose the Doidy Cup for your little one?

The Doidy Cup isn’t just another cup—it’s thoughtfully designed to encourage natural and healthy drinking habits right from the start. Its unique slanted shape supports babies in learning how to drink using an open cup, promoting proper tongue placement, jaw strength, and oral coordination. These skills are essential for clear speech and good oral development as your child grows.

Unlike bottles or sippy cups, the Doidy Cup promotes a natural drinking motion, supporting correct tongue positioning, essential for clear speech development. The cup’s design also naturally encourages your baby to use their arms and hands actively while drinking, building motor skills and coordination. This movement mirrors how adults drink, helping little ones to gain independence and confidence during mealtimes.

By using a Doidy Cup, you’re helping your baby develop essential skills for speech, oral health, and coordination, setting them up for a lifetime of confident, healthy habits.

Speech development happens in stages, and understanding each one can help you better support your little one's growth.

From birth to around six months, babies primarily communicate through crying, cooing, and babbling, laying the groundwork for language. Around six to twelve months, they start using more distinct sounds like "ma," "da," and "ba," beginning to connect sounds with meaning.

By the time they reach twelve to eighteen months, first words emerge, often simple terms like "mummy," "daddy," or "milk." This is when early oral skills, such as chewing and open-cup drinking, really start to impact speech clarity.

Between eighteen months and three years, vocabulary rapidly expands, and toddlers start forming simple sentences. During this phase, encouraging good oral motor habits—like drinking from open cups and eating a variety of differently textured foods—can significantly help speech clarity and pronunciation.

Wondering how durable your Doidy Cup is?

Doidy Cups are made from high-quality, food-safe materials designed to withstand everyday use by babies and toddlers. The robust design makes them sturdy enough to handle regular knocks, drops, and general wear and tear typical during mealtimes. Unlike brittle plastics, Doidy Cups use durable materials that remain reliable and safe over time, even after repeated use and cleaning.

They're dishwasher-safe, easy to clean, and maintain their distinctive slanted shape even after prolonged use. Many families find their Doidy Cup lasts through multiple children, offering great value and longevity. With proper care, your Doidy Cup will easily support your little one’s journey towards independent drinking throughout their early years.

The Doidy Cup was first invented in Britain during the 1950s by a British draughtsman. Its unique slanted design was specifically created to teach babies how to drink naturally from an open cup, helping them transition smoothly from breast or bottle to independent drinking. Unlike traditional bottles or spouted cups, the Doidy Cup encourages proper tongue placement, jaw movements, and muscle control, supporting good oral development and clear speech.

Over the decades, the Doidy Cup has remained a trusted staple in homes across the UK and worldwide. Health visitors, paediatricians, and parents continue to recommend it for its proven benefits in developing independent feeding skills, promoting oral health, and building confidence in babies as they grow. Its timeless design, largely unchanged since its creation, is a testament to its simplicity and effectiveness, continuing to support generations of little ones on their path to independence.

Speech development is closely connected to the strength and coordination of oral muscles, including the tongue, lips, and jaw. Encouraging babies and toddlers to practice chewing foods with resistive textures and drinking from an open cup can greatly benefit their speech clarity and pronunciation as they grow.

Open-cup drinking helps children build proper tongue placement and oral coordination, essential skills needed for forming clear speech sounds. Similarly, chewing harder textures promotes strong jaw movements and muscle control, which directly contributes to effective speech production.

By giving little ones regular opportunities to safely practice these oral motor skills, parents can actively support early speech development, reduce potential delays, and boost confidence in verbal communication from a young age.

Happy Monday, parents! We can do this! đŸ’Ș

For all babies there will come a time where they need to move off the bottle and move onto the cup. It might sound difficult, you might not know how to go about this, but today we share 3 tips that we have gathered from fellow parents on the transition to cup drinking.

1. Patience is key
When your baby try out the cup for the first time, you might find that they would either ignore the cup, chuck the cup around, or not use the cup as you would like them to. Be patient and let them have a go playing around with it. Once they’re more familiar with the cup and start on taking drinks from the cup, they may still have incorrect postures and please be patient and teach them the correct ways as many times as you need to.

2. Just give it a try
Like many things in life, you might be uncertain with how introduction to cup drinking will go, but sometimes you just have to dive in and give it a go. You can explore different options and work out what’s the best for your child. You can expose them to cups even earlier than 6 months, too.

3. Start small
Put a small amount of liquid first into the cup, and gently align the rim with your child’s mouth and feed it slowly. Too much liquid not only cause more mess, your child may also choke a little. You can also use a smaller cup to begin with.
