Hello, thank you Sheila Bates for your inspiring words earlier this week.

Sheila and I met many moons ago when I was a student at art school. I was studying Design at Glasgow School of Art with textiles as my specialism, and weaving as my main focus. I was her pupil back then (that time, for a spinning lesson) and I have been again this past year or so, some 20+yrs later.

There feels a circularity to where I now find myself having, for a while, been a little further β€˜away’ from making. I’m very grateful to Sheila for sharing her knowledge; for our rich creative conversations and the connections these bring and forgeβ€¦πŸ«ΆπŸ»

Thank you Sheila, and I look forward to seeing the beautiful work you will continue to create. I have practice ahead as I learn the Florrie way and I am verymuch looking forward to this.

πŸ‘ Just over 12 years ago, my passion for was re ignited. Inspired by Ann Ross of the and with the help of Sally Wilkin from ,I began a journey using the very undervalued fleeces to make .
πŸ‘ Incidentally the word Florrie simply jumped off the felting table into my mouth as Sally and I were making the first ones! A word that has gone on to be synonymous with the small business I have gradually built up .
πŸ‘ Yesterday I had the chance to call in at our local Craft Fair here in . What a treat to see friends and makers with whom I have shared many a market day over the years, here and further afield . The community of traders across the breadth of the country is massive. We are family. And while it can be alot of work pitching up week in , week out, to sell our work & meet new customers, it is always worth it for the craic alone !!

πŸ™ So now here I am grateful for the journey; Inspired by so many other gifted makers, dedicated crofters and texaholics with whom I share my passion for wool, along the way, at markets and Fairs . Big learning curves and fun !!!!

🍁Here in Scotland, August is time of harvest and new beginnings.
My new beginnings will be about exploring ways to marry felt with other textiles. Getting back to -The dyepot -The Spinning Wheel - The colour wheel .

🍁 new beginnings will be in with Rachel Skene.
I wish her every success with her return to being a maker again and I know that her professional approach to her work as well as her artistic energy will shine through. I am excited to see her journey gently evolve. A passion for the strong heritage of textiles as well as commitment to helping build sustainable futures, is something you can expect to see flourish with Rachel at the helm.
I am looking forward to visiting .

🌠My journey to this point of departure has taught me alot! The whole business of building a business has been challenging , not least getting my head around technology. Even using a keyboard still drives me nuts, clumsy fingers , racing ahead of my brain 🀣 And as for Social Media... but ......
🌠 Believing in the product , and having people believe in me has seen me through.

🌠The human connection is vital . And with a product the customer is definitely tapping into, responding to the uniqueness of our products . There are many people to acknowledge here!!
πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™HUGE THANKS πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™
🌠For unique and unerring support , , .

🌠For the sometimes hilarious but affirming company at many a Fair -
To the Fair organisers and craftshop owners across the Highlands who have believed in my products .Especially To ALL my customers across the world !

And finally to the sheep themselves & their dedicated owners.

It is almost time for me to pass on the Florrie FELTS banner to Rachel Skene..... The felted rug business I set up over ten years ago is moving this summer from west to east
πŸ‘ TEN YEARS of working with so many fabulous fleeces πŸ‘
Yesterday I was reminded of how many !!
😍 Beautiful serendipity yesterday........
Thank you to Catherine and Vince from Seattle on a return visit to Torridon who popped into our plot. By chance we were there too. 5 years ago they purchased a Lincoln Longwool Florrie from our very special neighbours and friends Thomas & Lesley Kilbride in Applecross at their studio workshop 😍
Catherine also keeps Shetland sheep and was as chuffed to meet the maker of her Florrie as I was to know my work is so appreciated and to meet a fellow fibreholic!

All the very best to Sarah and her team πŸŽ‰πŸ‘β€

This a small reminder, that if you live locally, (but hey feel free to travel from afar if you wish πŸ˜‰) we'd love to have you join us at our Grand Opening this Saturday early evening, 4-8 PM at our new shop in Dufftown, 8 Balvenie Street.

p.s. The shop will be open for business on Friday and Saturday 10-4 PM as well, but we'll be raising a glass to celebrate our opening on Saturday early evening.

Join us in raising a glass to our new home and the next phase of our business. Hope to see you Saturday!

All the best to Sarah and her teams
😍Will have to visit soon 😍

Super excited to share that we'll be opening 3 Bags Wool again at our new location at 8 Balvenie Street, Dufftown. We will be opening our doors on the 10th of February at 10 AM, and we so look forward to welcoming you!
This does mean that there will no longer be a segment of the cafe dedicated to the wool shop in Aberlour, however,, the good news is that 'The Gatherin' Cafe' is now bigger than ever, and we'll still have all our gorgeous handmade products on sale there. On top of this when the store in Dufftown opens we'll also have an even bigger space for all our beautiful yarns, workshops and classes.
We'll be sharing more details on the opening night launch, and the schedule of our Wool Skool shortly so be sure to stay tuned.

Opening hours will be:
Monday: 10 - 4 PM
Tuesday: 10 - 4 PM
Wednesday: Closed
Thursday: 12 - 8 PM
Friday: 10 - 4 PM
Saturday: 10 - 4 PM
Sunday - workshops/ classes only.

As the year opens up & energy levels start to rise again , for us & all of our natural world I am drawn towards the creative haven of my shed once more .
So many treasures in each season πŸ™πŸƒ.
It is short commute away in my back garden , increasingly full of birdsong and soon frogs croaking. A place where fibres sing , & I can lose myself with favourite music too, sometimes bluesy stuff sometimes classic folk.🎷🎻πŸ₯πŸ¦πŸΈ
But the shed is still FULL of fibre !!!! And much to be done !

Especially as this year is a whole new chapter in every sense.
During the second half of last year, I was joined by Rachel Skene, who is going to be continuing the Florrie Felts story from her workshop in Helmsdale .
Here we are on one of those days , exploring the properties of different fleeces.

I know I am so fortunate to be handing my small business to someone who is as equally passionate about the heritage of our rural life , textiles and wool. And we are really looking forward to sharing more of this story as it evolves.
