Hydro Ness, Inverness ~ 2022

It's about time I updated this account with my latest portfolio work. At the beginning of October, I got to visit our work beside the River Ness.

It was great to work alongside the brilliant team at to produce the interpretation for the Ness Hydro. It's a new hydro mechanism using the flow of the River Ness to produce energy for the local leisure centre.

Our client for this project was the Highland Council who wanted to produce a space where visitors, particularly younger audiences, could learn more about sustainability and creating energy using the power of nature. My role on the job was lead content developer with the Client, and writing support alongside my colleague. The 3D design and graphic styling was also produced by the incredible team at Mather & Co.

This was a great job with a positive message! I can only hope it reaches the community and encourages that we all embrace a sustainable lifestyle. ♻️💧

National Paralympic Heritage Trust ~ Stoke Mandeville National Spinal Injuries Centre ~ 2020

The installation sits in the reception of the hospital, which currently is not open to the public.

It includes braille, audio description, BSL and QR codes. With this design, we wanted to make sure that the design was as accessible as possible.

National Paralympic Heritage Trust ~ Stoke Mandeville National Spinal Injuries Centre ~ 2020

For this exhibition we wanted to celebrate the iconic history of this Spinal Injuries Centre in its home.

It may be that staff, patients and the general public don't know that this is the home of the Paralympics. This was also the place where Guttmann was pioneering in changing the perceptions and treatment of people with Spinal injuries.

It was great to be able to tell these stories where this all started! And to see the hospital as it is now and all the amazing people there.
It was also really lovely to chat with staff and patients there and hear their stories whilst I was working.

National Paralympic Heritage Trust ~ Stoke Mandeville Spinal Injuries Centre ~ 2020

In early March, I was making a start on filling these showcases. The structure was ready, AVs fitted and finally the objects were on display. But then lockdown happened.

Finally on the 4th September, we got to return to make the last lot of fittings. And I'm so happy with the results!

The 'Light in the Darkness' Exhibition ~ National Coal Mining Museum ~ 2020

The Mather & Co team and I wanted to create a space which reflected the darkness of the mine, while still adding the pop of colour that brings to life the space and creates a scientific feel. Our graphic designers really did a beautiful job at styling and executing these graphics!

The exhibition has a number if interactive points which we wanted make the visitor feel as though they are designing the lamp alongside Davy. It was important that we encouraged the visitors to think scientifically and see that jobs in science can save lives.

The Light in the Darkness Exhibition ~ National Coal Mining Museum ~ 2020

On the 1st August I was the proudest junior designer that could be, because the National Coal Mining Museum opened up to the public, with my latest exhibition inside.

In the first few months in my career in 2019 I started working on this exhibition. It was to tell the story of the scientist Sir Humphry Davy and his Flame Safety Lamp which he created to save the lives of Miners.

When I began working on the project, I knew very little about the mining industry, but I knew this was a really important story to tell.

From the lives that were lost during the early years of mining, through to the legacy that we know today as the Garforth mining lamp. This exhibition explores how one invention became the answer to making the underground world safer.
