I’ve been chatting a lot about model making recently so I thought I’d share something completely different…a pair of trainers!

The mathematician in me enjoys the challenge of a sculpted cake. It’s all about ratios and dimensions and working out the order of layering icing. The perfect combination of puzzle and creativeness!!

August was fun - enjoying family time and days out in between work and prepping for a new term. I can’t believe we’re still managing to discover places that we’ve never been before!

It was our first visit to The Big Cat Sanctuary and we were blown away by the facilities and passion for these beautiful animals.

We’re so lucky to have to have The Little Old Toll House just a stroll away. The perfect spot for coffee and a catch up.

Strawberry picking Chegworth Valley. We picked up some of their delicious fruit juice too.

A wonderful afternoon with another old school friend, tasting wine Balfour Winery

Date night Little Fant Farm. Homemade brownie and fondant fancy as the sun sets!

And always a lovely day out Buttercups Goat Sanctuary sanctuary 🐐

Freya and Joe celebrated their 18th birthday with a cake decorated with things they love. I was particularly proud of my little sketch of the Eiffel Tower! 🎨

Flicking through old photo albums always makes the hours pass like minutes!

I’m lucky that my world still revolves around creativeness, and quite a lot of music. But maybe this weekend I’ll borrow Noah’s Switch and play Just Dance!! Or march around the streets of Allington with a flag 🤣

What did you love as a kid? Do you still do it now?

This is another cake from last year - a boxing themed cake for Jake’s 30th. And it’s a great example of the 3 different colours of icing that I buy.

If I need black then I buy black icing!

If I need a small amount of red then I colour white icing with a red gel colour - Christmas red by Sugarflair® Food Colours is my favourite.

If I need a large amount of red like on this cake then I buy red icing. You have to add so much food colouring to get a bright colour that it can affect the flavour and consistency.

For every other colour, I colour white icing with gel food colours.

Products used -
Red sugarpaste and modelling paste - Renshaw Baking
Black sugarpaste and modelling paste - Renshaw Baking
White sugarpaste - Couture Sugarpaste
Gold edible lustre glitter - Sugarflair® Food Colours

No reels, no carousels, just a single photo of a gorgeous cake!

This simple and beautiful cake was for Francesca’s 16th birthday last year. And it’s one of my favourite colours Colourmill Studio dusk. Colourmill oil based food colours are my favourite when colouring buttercream as they mix so easily.

I need your help!!

I’m finally putting the finishing touches to my first tutorial and I’d really like a few volunteers to test it out. Basically I want to check that my instructions make sense!!

I’ll send you a kit with the instructions and some modelling paste and all I ask is that you send me some feedback and perhaps a few photos.

If you’d like to help me out, then email me [email protected] and I’ll be in touch.

Thanks!
