I figured it was time to try a new trouser pattern so I drafted one myself! This is an idea that’s been on my mind for a while now and I’m happy to say they worked out exactly as I had hoped!

I started with the same block I used for the bottom half of the Jen Jumpsuit and made a few tweaks. I created a barrel leg shape and then made a separate curved panel for the bottom of the leg with a channel for ties. I also added pockets, something I might do for the Jen as I missed them on my last version. I really like how they turned out so of course I’m now thinking of other variations and realising it as a pattern! What do you think? Let me know in the poll.

The fabric is an absolute DREAM to wear! It’s a lightweight stripe cotton from in grey and blue. This fabric is so smooth so feels amazing to wear and will be perfect for summer.

I’m planning another pair already and I’ll actually trace the pattern this time instead of winging it!

I will never get over the moment someone stopped outside liberty and commented on my Charlie Jacket. Honestly… what a moment. For someone to stop and not only comment on how much they liked it but how great the sleeve was.

It’s such a small detail in the grand scheme of things that most people probably would never notice it. But I really do love these sleeves, so having that bit of recognition from a complete stranger outside LIBERTY!!!

When the idea for the Charlie jacket was coming together I wanted some key things- no dropped shoulders, a clean & tidy collar and amazing pockets! There was already options for ‘chore style’ jackets but I wanted something a little less boxy and slouchy. The 2 piece sleeve has a beautiful shape and I am so happy I added the extra topstitching to my latest version to highlight this.

The facing and collar took a while to get right and it is a little tricky, but I have a YouTube tutorial taking you through all these steps. It’s 100% worth it, the inside looks so neat and the collar really hugs your neck.

I’m not sure what to add about the pockets… in my eyes they are perfect! lol!

Finally!!!! It has taken me way too long to finish this jacket 🙈 this Charlie Jacket was planned way back before Christmas, I managed to get it cut but then it sat for months waiting to be sewn up and honestly I think it’s the best thing that could have happened…

If I had made it back then I think I would have went for black or dark grey topstitching and plain buttons because the plan was to have a “practical” black jacket to go with everything. Hah! Every time I say this it doesn’t happen so I’m not sure why I thought this would be different 😂

Turns out I think it was waiting for these buttons 🦞 they were the inspiration behind the silver topstitching and I’m so happy I went for it. Although there were many many times I regretted it. Using a triple straight stitch for topstitching is not for the faint of heart!

I’m so happy I persisted with it, I’m obsessed with the finished jacket!

The fabric is a pique denim from which Yusuf told me I had to get 😂 I really loved working with it, it has a lovely structure but isn’t too thick and feels lovely to wear. The buttons are from they have an amazing range in at the moment. And the labels are my favourite .rosy.cheeks ❤️ the lining for the yoke is a scrap of my Dior cotton from a few years ago.

Expect to see this jacket a lot in the future, it’s going to be wore a lot!!

Day 28 of 🙌🏻
