Think you can’t sew?! Such a lovely day yesterday with this talented bunch. All complete beginners who had never used a sewing machine and all turned out to be naturals! Always love seeing everyone ‘birth’ their fabric bags and turn them the right way out, amazing sewing 😀💕

Fancy giving it a go? New classes and dates will be shared soon, watch this space!

Meet your tutor! Hi, I'm Tara and I'm absolutely obsessed with sewing and textiles. I have been sewing for over 50 years and have a BA in Fashion Design. I run workshops for all levels, from absolute beginners picking up a needle for the first time, to more experienced dressmakers ready to level up their skills. You'll also find me teaching at Knit and Stitch shows across the UK throughout the year. Whether you're here to learn, to be inspired, or just to find your people, you're very welcome. 🧵

I've had quite a few new followers recently - thank you! So thought it might be time for a Meet Your Tutor post.

👋 Hi, I'm Tara, and I'm absolutely obsessed with sewing and textiles.

I'm the maker behind The Dressmaker's Apprentice, and I've been in love with fabric, thread and the magic of construction for as long as I can remember, can actually now say for over 50 years and counting. 😆

I started sewing as a young child, went on to complete a BA in Fashion Design and have shown womenswear collections at the Guinness Fashion Awards and at Pure Women London but honestly, what lights me up most is sharing the joy of sewing and textiles with other people.

I run workshops for all levels, from absolute beginners sitting at a sewing machine or picking up a needle for the first time, to more experienced dressmakers ready to level up their skills. You'll also find me teaching at Knit and Stitch shows across the UK throughout the year and keeping it social in the studio with our weekly Great Bangor Sewing Bee.

My particular passions are dressmaking and pattern cutting, alongside hand sewing and the slower, more meditative textile techniques such as traditional embroidery, sashiko, pojagi and mola. There is something genuinely special about the connection between hands, thread and cloth.

Whether you're here to learn, to be inspired, or just to find your people, you're very welcome. 🧵💕

p.s. - I really don't like having my photo taken, here is blurry one I can just about cope with sharing 😆

When I started The Dressmaker's Apprentice I could only dream of a community like this, and you are making it something truly special. Thank you. 💕

And if you know a fellow maker who'd love to join us, please do give this post a share and help spread the word! ✂️🥰
