6 week dancer leotard costume course

Are you a dancer , performer or queen and want to learn how to make your own leotard and basic costume ?

This course is the one for you, well actually this is two courses in one!

If you like what you see in our 5 Week Dressmaking Course then this course is the perfect choice as it contains those key sewing skills along with many added extras.

We will take you from complete beginner to finished costume

Starting with our intro class get to know your machine

Learn how to work with stretch fabrics
How to do an array of finishings
Have a consultation about your design with our tutor/ designer
Work on adapting our block patterns into your desired costume (Block pattern provided by us)
Learn how to put patterns onto fabric
Cut and prepare to sew
Construct your costume with all finishings necessary
Photograph your costume in our in house photography studio

6 weeks

2.5 hrs per week

Ever wanted to make a dress ?

Well this is the course for you.

Why not make a dress that fits you like a glove or even a make a dress for a special someone in your life. Choose from a selection of pre approved patterns from our website We have multiple styles available and all at a beginner level.

Let us guide you in which fabrics will work for the dress and where to get them and what all you need

In this course you will learn how to

How to read your pattern
How to lay and cut out your pattern
How to put your pattern on to the fabric , cut and prep to sew
How to sew your dress together and finish correctly with all its correct finishings
You will even get the chance to take a beautiful photo of your dress in our photography studio

This class is broken up over 5 weeks

In this class

You will learn:

how to set up your machine.
Learn what the different settings are and how to look after it.
Once that is done you will move onto learning how to sew.
We will teach you your basic knowledge to get you up and going from basic stitches to easy garment finishing.

In this class you will finish your class with making a tote bag.

All fabric will be provided for this class.

Feel free to bring your sewing machine from home or if you haven’t got that far feel free to use one of ours.

Do you have an interest in the art of fashion illustration?

Then this is the course for you.

In this class you will learn the essential skills in fashion illustration.

You will engage with techniques to capture the essence of the female form using conventional fashion illustration proportions. You will also explore balance, drawing from different viewpoints and zoom in on difficult areas to illustrate including face, hair, legs and feet!
Learn how to render a selection of fabrics including velvet, leather, satin, denim, check fabric and sheer.
Learn about detail, colour, texture and shading
have an opportunity to develop your own personal illustration style by using of a variety of media and traditional drawing techniques

Meet our founder and head tutor

With a BA in Textile Design from the National College of Art and Design, Designer Eamonn McGill has had great success in the fashion industry since setting up his own Dublin studio in 2017, where he custom makes one-of-a-kind dresses for his clientele who desire memorable designs to match a memorable event. Eamonn has dressed stars for red carpet events such as Oscars, Golden Globes and BAFTAs.

Eamonn has also worked closely with Brown Thomas for the past three years creating the iconic Christmas windows which attract thousands year after year. Most recently were his magical and whimsical costumes inspired by dreams, specifically the idea of escaping into our dreams to enjoy the enchantment of fairytales.

With a love of fashion and sewing, Eamonn prides himself on the great quality of all his dresses and wants to pass on that skill and knowledge to others who have an interest in fashion and sewing, allowing them to get creative while also learning the fundamentals of the craft.

Sew in Belfast is a sewing school set up by renowned designer Eamonn McGill, who has a BA in Textile Design from the National College of Art and Design and has worked in the fashion industry for many years, creating spectacular custom designs from his own studio in Dublin city centre.

Eamonn now wants to share his skills and experiences of the fashion industry and help promising young designers who are passionate about learning the ins and outs of sewing.
