Appliqué two ways and freestyle embroidery - all in one class - 15th and 18th June.

It's so easy to get in the way of thinking that you must be making a thing useful. Sometimes it's nice to slow down and do something fun.

I do goggle at my cute but basic freehand embroidery flowers compared to the incredible elephant a student did. We can't all be artist prodigies but that should stop us having fun. 😍

You may have noticed I've been somewhat quiet on the socials recently. The last couple of years have been difficult health wise for me and they have now discovered the root cause - .

The treatment is going to put me into early(ish) menopause and I'm now looking at my wardrobe working out what will be the best things to wear.

I'm going to do a series on what to sew for menopause so if you have any recommendations for me to try I'll try to remember to sew them!

First up is a loose fitting long dress from .rosy.cheeks. I'm not normally a long skirt person but no one needs to see my bare legs in their bright white glory! Self drafted funnel neck because I'm weird about rubbing necklines. Also a full bust adjustment because of silly boy bust. 😆

Genuine question - why don't more men sew?

My social media metrics show that my audience is predominantly female and 99% of sewing videos are of women.

I set up Make it Fab to support everyone to take up sewing but I still get very few men in the studio. Prompted by a comment from a client that being the only man in a group of ladies was a little intimidating I'm going to try something new - a class for men.

Because everyone deserves to learn the most rewarding skill there is out there.

Do pass this on to any men you know because social media seems to be scared to show this content to men.

What a year it's been! I have so many moments of pure joy in Make it Fab sessions. Here are some of my highlights...

Watching my teens flourish this year from hesitant but enthusiastic sewists to seeing them accomplish what they want to do with confidence and wonderful humour.

Teaching about 750 kids how to sew on a button. Walking into a class with many skeptical looks and seeing those looks turn to pride at taking the first steps of a sustainable future.

Seeing the pure joy in the faces of adults who were sure they won't be able to sew when they make their lavender cushion in an intro session.

Nibbles the bunny.

Thank you to everyone who has come to the studio, all the schools who have had me in and to the organisations who have made me a part of their sustainability missions.

You might be wondering if the cost of entry is worth it for the show but I certainly made the most of it. If you add up the shipping costs for the businesses I bought from that would have been a lot more than entry fee.

One of my top tips for sewing is to create your own space to sew in. The thought of getting your machine out, clearing a space for it, getting your project together and then having to put it all away can feel like a huge barrier to getting on with a project.

Understandably most people look around the studio and roll their eyes when I say this! But I didn't always have a studio full of sewing machines!

This was my set up when I started to get serious about sewing. It was small but it was my little space for creativity. 😍🧵🪡🧶
