Introduction time!
Hi, I'm Alex, the creator of Cake Eighty Seven.
I'm cringing over here getting my face involved, but I think it's important you know who's behind the shiny chocolate cakes.
After many years making fairly alternative wedding cakes, I slowly became obsessed with chocolate and started the long journey of creating the perfect postable chocolate cake.
I can't begin to tell you how tricky I've found starting a new business, let alone getting to grips with temperamental chocolate and perfecting those glossy colourful finishes. I guess it's in the name... 86 mistakes before Cake Eighty Seven came out just right.
Although usually covered in chocolate, I'm also a mum to two small kids, owner of one dog, and somehow responsible for deciding what's for dinner every single day for the rest of my life.
Building a business around family life hasn't always been straightforward, and there have definitely been moments when I've questioned my sanity. But every time I see one of these cakes boxed up and heading off to a customer, I remember exactly why I started.
The passion is real, the chocolate obsession is probably getting out of hand, and I have big plans for this little business.
