Super excited to say that I am going on my first ever artist residency in September at Helikon Art Center

It’s such a rarity as a working-class artist to have extended time to spend on my practice, I am really looking forward to this experience and seeing what comes up and what I create whilst I’m there.

Planning to be mostly offline and enjoy the Turkish village life, but will definitely be sharing pics of the adventure when I’m back in the UK!

💍 The process of finishing a batch of rings from a workshop:

1. Begin with the rings created in wax during the workshop
2. I add a little piece of wax called a sprue to every ring for casting
3. Rings are sent to be cast into recycled sterling silver
4. How the rings look when they come back to me
5. A little spin in the tumbler removes anything leftover from casting
6. I remove all the excess metal first by sawing, then filing
7. You’ll never know it was there!
8. Some rings need heating up to be resized
9. Then they look like this, in need of a polish!
10. Part way through polishing, it’s a long process
11. One last spin in the tumbler to get into all the nooks & crannies
12. Each ring is packaged up
13. All the rings ready to be reunited with their makers
14. Write a thank you note

It was lovely to be back teaching a Ring Making Workshop for another cohort of artists at 💍

The artists created wearable Relics from the Morecambe Bay Area. Utilising found objects, the natural landscape and architectural features we created imprints in wax. Being so close to the beach we had an abundance of material to forage and textures were created from sea plants, tech, flowers, sand, discarded items and the building itself.

Once cast into metal these impressions will be preserved and serve as a reminder of place. Stay tuned to see the finished rings in recycled silver ✨

A traditional Wax-Carving Worksop held at .village (on one of the sweatiest days ever!)

Despite the heat it was so nice to be back teaching in my favourite space on the Wirral, we spent a lovely evening slowly carving with hand tools to reach our final ring designs.

✨ 3 MONTH STUDIO SUB LET ✨

I will be subletting my Hamilton Square artists studio from 18th of January up until the end of April as I’m going travelling! (happy to move slightly on dates as long as I know In advance)
My studio space is located within and features an original bank vault which can be hired for exhibitions/events. The building is also home to .studios.gallery as well as several independent creatives.

Features:

Self-contained studio space with code locked door

Shared kitchen area with fridge, microwave, kettle

Amazing location 30 second walk from Hamilton square train station

Electric Heater in studio keeps it nice and cosy

Access to Outdoor space

Wi-fi

Window for natural light, overhead lighting and two angle poise lamps

More details:

I would prefer to sublet my studio at a reduced rate whilst using the space to store my things (this is what I have done previously as the jewellery bench is a pain to move, I will cover a small area with my belongings in a dust sheet and there is still plenty of space left for you to use) hoping for £150 per month/ £37.50 per week.

Alternatively I could remove everything from the studio space, however I would want the full rent amount of £185 per month as it would involve getting a van and finding storage space for my belongings.

I have a couple of trestle tables and chairs that I’d be happy to leave out for use if it’s helpful!

This would be the perfect opportunity if you are debating getting a studio space but want to test it out before committing to anything. Or if you have a specific / short-term project you want to work on for a few months.

Ideally I am looking for someone I know or friends of friends to sub-let as I want to be able to trust that the space will be looked after in my absence, otherwise I would require references.
