🌱 Striped ecru cotton cushion cover woven in pedal loom 🌾

Minimalist cushion cover with striped design. The neutral design allows this cushion to fit easily in most rooms and balancing the decoration. The craftsmanship portrays a sense of rooting and balance. To achieve the neutral tones of the final design, the cotton was not dyed but left with its natural tone. The closure on the back is a hidden zipper.

WHO MADE MY CUSHION COVER?
This cushion cover was made by Jesus or one of his family members working at their shop very close to the beaches of Huatulco in Oaxaca, Mexico. They take 1 day to make the whole woven cloth in the pedal loom, and take 1 more day to cut the cushions, sew and add finishing details like zippers.

👉🏻 SWIPE right to see the final patterns woven line by line shaped with the different colour yarns. Isn't it gorgeous?

The 8 cushion covers I sourced for you were made in machines like this one: a pedal loom.

These machines have foot pedals 🦶🏻 used for weaving wool, cotton, and silk fabrics, and could become anything: clothes 👕, table runners, rugs, or your cushion covers!

With these, the weavers run line by line making all kinds of shapes and designs that could be created with several yarn 🧶 colours.

Now with the yarns in different colours, they can start weaving cloths in the pedal loom shaping their designs line by line.

😯 What an amazing technique right?

SOLD 🍯Woven yellow cotton cushion cover with loops and tassels🌻

Cushion cover in deep yellow colour with small loops on striped design. It has tassels in its 4 corners and a zipper closure on the back. The artisan explored more innovative designs for these cushion covers, to adapt to the modern market. The colour is a deep earthy yellow that reminds me of the Mexican sunflower or the yellow walls of Mexican haciendas from the Spanish colonization.

This cushion would give a subtle pop of colour to your living room, your bed, or armchair. This piece celebrates the Traditional Technique used by the artisan.

WHO MADE MY CUSHION COVER?
This was made by an artisan from Mitla, Oaxaca, the pre-hispanic Zapotec ceremonial city. This artisan joined with a few others to sell their handcrafted products in a shop close to the beaches of Huatulco, Oaxaca. He rarely attends the shop and only sends his products because he stays in Mitla taking care of his children alongside his wife.

These are your cushion covers, before all the skilled work of the artisans! Do you want to know the process? Read below 👇🏻

1. The artisans take the raw material which in this case, is the wool from sheep, and prepare the wool passing it between the 2 brushes you see in the basket.

2. Then spinning it to create the yarn 🧵.

3. The yarns are then naturally dyed with different elements found in their surroundings depending on the colour they want to achieve.

For example, they use walnut 🌰 for brown, indigo plant🌱 for blue, pomegranate for orange, Mexican marigold 🌼 for yellow, or cochineal insects 🐜 for that deep red colour which was also used for the coats of British soldiers 🇬🇧!

Then comes the pedal loom… to find out about the next steps keep your eyes peeled 👀 and turn on your notifications for my posts and stories in the 🔔 ↗️!

🍷 Wine cushion cover with traditional design woven with pure cotton in pedal loom 🌹

The pattern design that is woven in this cushion cover is a Traditional Design influenced by Zapotec iconography.

It has tassels in its 4 corners modernizing the design, and a zipper closure on the back. The finish in the cushion is very high quality. It is a dark wine tone with details in natural color.

I chose this color because it provides elegance and brings attention to the piece with such grace that it applauds the Traditional Design and its beautiful craftsmanship. This piece celebrates the Traditional Technique of the pedal loom used by the artisan.

🐆🍉🦆Hand embroidered animals and florals over pedal loom woven purple cotton cushion cover 🌷🐞

This unique cushion cover is only for bold spaces and bold souls. The attention to detail in every stitch is beautiful. Because of the bright colours all over it can be one of the few pieces that receive the full attention in the room, or can also match a bold decoration. It will spark joy in your bedroom or delight your guests in the living room. They will all want to know their story and you will be able to tell them about the Traditional Technique of the pedal loom, and the person who made it.

WHO MADE MY CUSHION COVER?
This cushion cover was made by the mother of Freddy, the person in charge of a cooperative shop 2 mins away from the beach in Huatulco, Oaxaca. Their family is from Teotitlan del Valle, Oaxaca, a historic Zapotec weaving city.

She wove the cushions in a pedal loom and added the animals and floral figures in hand embroidery. Her son could not recall the hours she takes to make them because she picks them up every now and then when she has some spare time from her house errands.
*These are not Traditional Designs exclusive from Teotitlan del Valle, Oaxaca.
