Today marks the Day of Ashura, the day on which Hussain made his final stand against injustice

1400 years ago, on the burning plains of Karbala (Iraq), Hussain alongside his family and his 72 companions faced certain defeat against an army of thousands. With no water for 3 days, they fought valiantly one by one until it was just Hussain standing alone. Even then, Hussain refused to bow his head to a tyrant. With nothing more left to give, alas, Hussain was brutally killed as the women and children from his camp witnessed in horror.

Though Hussain was killed, he was victorious in his stand. His selfless sacrifice became a legacy that millions throughout history have drawn inspiration from - to never submit to corruption of any kind and to stand firm for social justice. Today, millions around the world will be mourning Hussain whilst chanting slogans of peace and renewing their allegiance to the values Hussain stood for.

Today is a day like no other.
