Unmasking is difficult but how are you supposed to unmask when you don't even realise you're masking in the first place?
Here's a list of signs I'm masking:
😖 Pushing through sensory discomfort. Telling myself things like "oh, it's not that bad"
🙅 Suppressing stimming and using fidget toys
👀 Forcing eye contact during conversations
❤️ Hiding my special interests
😶 Rehearsing conversations in front of a mirror and scripting
©️ Copying someone else's behaviour, facial expressions, gestures, or even tone of voice
Remember: masking isn't always a conscious decision, so be kind to yourself! Having a list like this can be helpful, because it can serve as a 'checklist'
