Are you based in or around Glasgow?
In partnership with Oscha Slings, creators of beautiful, Scottish-made baby wraps and carriers, we’re excited to offer practical, hands-on workshops designed to help you build confidence and master the art of safe, comfortable babywearing.

Ring Slings: At Merry-Go-Round Glasgow

Discover the versatility of ring slings - perfect from newborn to toddler. Whether you're completely new to babywearing or looking to get some hints and tips, this session is designed to build your confidence and ensure a safe, comfortable fit for both you and your little one.

Back Carrying with Buckles: At Our Easterhouse Studio

Back carrying can feel intimidating at first, but this session will guide you through the process step-by-step. You'll leave feeling empowered and ready to carry your baby or toddler comfortably and securely on your back.

You’ll practise with weighted dolls until you feel confident, and you're welcome to bring your own child if you’d like to try with them during the session.

We understand times are hard, and while we would normally charge £20 per family, we have given you the choice in what to pay.

We would suggest:

£0 - I can't offer any payment

£10 - Times are tough but I can contribute

£20 - Things are going OK and I can afford it

£30 - I'm doing well and want to support someone else

If anyone has any questions about feeding safely in a sling after the awful news today, there is an article that has been on my website for years. I’ll put it in the comments.

The key thing is that it is not hands free and baby’s airway must always and at all times be unobstructed. Folks local to me have had this information from us at 4T or at library sessions or at consults, just as they would from other local libraries: this link might be useful if you have any questions coming your way if you have a sling and a baby who loves it.

Sling libraries are such a valuable source of information and helpful guidance and do wonderful work supporting parents and their babies at an overwhelming and challenging period in their lives. Please direct any new parents you know towards them so they receive appropriate safety information from people with experience and knowledge who know how to help and are committed to ensuring the best outcomes.

I’m also grateful that there are many NHS trusts working on getting their staff more educated and signposting to local resources, I’ve been pleased to train/be training many.

My heart goes out to the grieving family.

😯 IT'S NOT HANDS FREE! 😯

Breastfeeding/chestfeeding in a sling is NOT hands free. Not what you want to hear?
When people want to breast or chestfeed in a sling, it's usually so they can do something at the same time so want their hands free.

It's not HANDS free, but it IS HAND free. You will have one hand free, and when you become a parent, you know how much you can still do with one!

Depending on the position you choose to feed in, babys head is not supported, this is why you need to do it. Babies head is the heaviest part of their body, and they cannot support it very well.

Covering babies head with the sling or carrier is NOT the solution either. This presses babies head into the breast/chest and doesn't allow them the movement needed to latch and unlatch. It can also be an asphyxiation risk.

When feeding in the sling or carrier, you must monitor baby at all times. Check if they have fallen asleep and resposition them high on your chest upright.

Babies under 4 months, premature, low weight or have medical issues are at a higher risk and it's important to get 1:1 support at all times in these circumstances.

If you do not feel you can monitor baby the whole time then do not try to do something else and stop to feed first.

If you want to learn how to safely feed in your sling or carrier get in touch. We also visit feeding groups and playgroups if you want to learn more about babywearing or feeding and carrying please get in touch.

Thanks to Coorie in with love for putting this post together with the educator group.
