A Special Week at Snailhouse Stitching Studio
In the heart of the picturesque town of Bishops Castle sits Snailhouse Stitching Studio.
Established in 2017, the charming shop is owned and run by Georgia, whose warm smile and expert eye for detail have made the studio a beloved staple of the community.
Whether it’s sewing, repairs, custom alterations, or acting as a trusty dry cleaning agent, Georgia handles every garment with care.
One Monday morning, the studio welcomed Chloe, a student joining Georgia for a one-week work placement. Though five days is a short time, Chloe was eager to immerse herself in the world of textiles and see what running a busy independent shop was really like.
Georgia kicked off the week by showing Chloe the ropes—from organising the dry cleaning collections for Morgan's Dry Cleaners to understanding the rhythm of the studio.
Chloe spent her days learning the fundamentals of measuring, pattern work, and fabric care. She admired the blend of history and craft in the shop, taking special note of the ornate vintage Jones sewing machine on display. Between helping customers at the counter and soaking in Georgia's expert stitching tips, Chloe even brought in her own creative flair, creating bespoke items for customers and restoring a delightful handcrafted knitted doll.
As Chloe’s placement came to a close, Georgia thanked her for all her enthusiastic help during such a busy week. She now has several offers of employment and a glowing reference from her time working in Snailhouse Stitching Studio.
Shortly after Chloe completed her placement, the town announced the results of the local civic awards. Snailhouse Stitching Studio was awarded the prestigious Robert Gwytther Cup for Best Kept Business Premises! Holding up the silver trophy and certificate with pride, Georgia thought back to how bright and welcoming the studio had been all week—a effort made all the sweeter by having had such great company and help during Chloe's placement.
Today, the silver cup sits proudly in the window at 4 Union Street, a reminder of a celebrated award and a memorable week of teaching, stitching, and community spirit.
