THE ENGRAVED THREAD - husband and wife team Ashleigh Slater BDes (Hons), MA - Tartan Designer, Weaver - Helen Slater - digital mixed-media artist, laser engraving and photography. Tartan Caledonia creates tartan designs for families, schools, care homes, charities and companies alike. Services include running tartan workshops and weaving demonstrations within Scotland all designs can be sent for kilt and lightweight tartan cloth manufacture.

Join our 3-Day Intensive Tartan Design & Weaving Course and take your ideas from concept to cloth. Working on a traditional loom, you’ll design your own tartan, learn the principles of colour and sett construction, and weave your own unique piece under expert guidance.

📍 Day 1 – Design

* Learn the history and structure of tartans
* Develop your own unique colour palette
* Create your personal tartan design
* Understand sett calculations and pattern repeats

📍 Day 2 – Prepare & Set Up

* Select and prepare yarns
* Learn warping and loom setup
* Dress the loom ready for weaving

📍 Day 3 – Weave

* Weave your own tartan cloth
* Learn traditional weaving techniques
* Leave with a woven sample of your design and the skills to continue your weaving journey
