Live More Sustainably A Quick Guide

Hadn’t realised until the last few months just how difficult it is to find a small piece of land in England that is affordable and likely to get permission to build a sustainable modular house on. With an income stream added and excess fruit and veg to sell locally.

More and more of us are looking for off grid/ greener lifestyle options. Why does it seem easier for developers to but up lamd to build “non affordable” homes than for an individual to buy a small plot of land of 0.5 acres to add value to while sitting happily within its’ environment.

Should this change if the plan is robust and better for the environment than conventional bricks & mortar which costs more to retrofit with green technologies?

With the hot weather I seem to be doing more washing. Sweaty clothes from work and having a teenage boy!!!

Some people complain when using sustainable alternatives that their laundry doesn’t smell clean. I don’t find that at all. I love both Eco Leaf and Minml. The clothes come out clean, smelling fresh even after being on the line all day!

I use my Eco Egg when travelling but that definitely doesn’t leave any kind of fresh smell after washing and drying on a clothes line outside.

I’ve been drying my laundry colour catcher sheets too. Saves so much money rather than tossing them away!

Also been repairing quite a few tops that have developed tiny holes. I hate throwing my tops away so repair them until they are too far gone then chop them up for rags for cleaning.

Hopefully everyone is using the hot weather to dry their washing outside on the washing line rather than in the tumble drier!


In Winter manual dehumidifiers of dishwasher salt in containers draws the moisture out of the air to stop black mould forming when drying washing but also in general place a container on each windowsill to prevent condensation.

Are you remembering to dry and reuse your colour catcher sheets? When used in light coloured and white loads you can carry on using the same ones over and over saving a siginificant amount of 💷 over time.

One of my sisters suggested that as Wild have gone over to “the dark side” of parent companies that Fussy would fit in the same container. I saw it on special offer at Sainsbury’s so thought I’d give it a go.

I had trouble getting it to fit the Wild container to start with. Second issue was I don’t find it as effective as Wild. 3rd issue it lasts nowhere near as long. Well it didn’t for me. So I’m on the hunt for the next more sustainable option to try. Needs to be cost effective and to survive a long day of physical work!

Any suggestions gratefully received and I’ll review it on here. 😊
