My business maybe small, but that’s the way I like it. If you had asked me a couple of years ago how I wanted it to look I would probably say something different. That I wanted it to be bigger, more successful, stocked in big retailers etc. I’ve realised though that I quite like it small. I often think I could have taken more risks, pushed myself more, been more courageous, more determined; but I followed my heart, and created employment for others, choosing effort and to do things the right way instead of prioritising profit. Are there any small businesses you love who do choose to do things differently?

It’s a cliche I know, but time really does go too quickly. I sometimes find I can’t look back at photos without crying! My youngest is almost 14, and whilst I have loved every stage of motherhood, I can honestly say, I would give anything to turn the clock back and savour those younger days a little more. When I talk now with the kids, it’s not the big events or days out they recall, the moments they talk about with such fondness are those little moments, the times when we had a picnic in the garden, sat and did jigsaws together, had bbq’s outside. They don’t feel much and they aren’t big grand moments, but those moments are and were everything. Cherish them. X

The art of making…’a person who works with their hands is a labourer, a person who works with their hands and their brains is a craftsman, a person who works with their hands, their brains and their heart is an artist; be an artist’ surely this is the art of making, using your creativity to bring something to life. How magical is that?!
