Great to cheer on Tobias Kennedy-Matthews this weekend on his ride from North Devon District Hospital to Exeter Hospital to raise awareness of the suspension of births in North Devon and collect funds to help families cover sudden travel and stay costs in Exeter.

More than 56 women have had to give birth in Exeter instead of North Devon so far, with still more expected in September. Our NHS Trust say they hope to reopen the service by the end of September, but this can never be allowed to happen again.

We are all too aware of the issues that Charity Shops have with Shop-Lifting. Theft in charity shops is a rising issue across the UK, costing individual stores an average of over £26,000 a year in lost revenue.
It saddens us to see lovely pre-owned items that have been donated to our Royal Devon Hospitals Charity Shops taken without payment. Over the past 3 days we have been able to identify the loss of a handful of items totally so far to £142.00. These items were hanging in the direct eye-line of staff and volunteers. It literally makes our stomach turn to know that some delightful people would take from a charity. Goodness knows how many other items of stock leave our shops on a daily basis without payment.

No matter how much crime-prevention is put into place and caution is taken when stocking the rails, theft will always be an occurrence. The volunteers as well as the Staff and Fundraising Team across the Royal Devon Hospitals Charity & Royal Devon Hospitals Charity Fern Centre work tirelessly to generate those extra funds for our local NHS services.

Please THINK before taking from a Charity. 🥹
