Hello and welcome to Little Bird Sewing Studios, the home of bespoke Dressmaking and Tailoring. I make unique, one-off garments from design to completion in my studio in Brigg, North Lincolnshire. Services range from Bridal wear and Bridesmaids to evening dresses, prom dresses and other occasion wear. I also make bespoke Menswear and Costumes for performance and exhibition. We offer a local altera

tions service to Brigg and the surrounding areas. We can do fittings of your garments in the comfort of your own home with free collection and delivery available for alterations for addresses within 3 miles of Brigg. (Service available outside this area but a small fee will be added for cost of fuel). An express service is also available where repairs and alterations can be done quickly (a small charge applies for the express service and it is dependant on materials being available). Victorian Frockcoat 3

The finished garment! I was so proud of this make and the client was over the moon with the results. A truly unique piece with detachable elements so it can be worn to multiple events and look different.
The detachable elements are the cape, which is a completely separate garment that could also be worn on its own. Also, the velvet cuffs with embroidered tulle can be removed to show a velvet bound edge and smaller tulle flounce underneath.
The back details give me life! Love the pattern cutting details on this ❤️

I realised when looking through my phone photos recently that I haven’t posted any images of things I’ve made over the last year! 🤦🏼‍♀️
So I’d like to start with an in depth look at a bespoke Frock coat I made for a private client last summer (a series).
This was an elaborate design to be worn to the Asylum festival that takes place yearly around the August bank holiday in Lincoln. The client wanted to be a flamboyant Victorian gentleman with an Alice in Wonderland theme to the fabric.
Here are images of the bespoke fabric we had printed to make the Frock coat in. It was a very involved process as we had to make sure we had the right amount printed at once so there would be no colour discrepancies. Also that the curve for the skirt hem was at the correct angle so the same width of border would be around the full hem 🤯
And a little surprise to be hidden by a detachable cape on the back 🐛

So yesterday I did something new and worked on a concert for Rod Stewart in Hull!
Busy but brilliant day. Absolutely loving the variety of work I’ve been doing so far this year.

Hull Truck in the sunshine ☀️

My first ever job in costume was here so it’s been lovely to be back for the third time this year already! Costume maintenance this week on Quality street with northern broadsides. Love a bit of regency costume!

My place of work for the next few days! What an absolutely lovely bunch of people. I haven’t done backstage work for a little while but it’s all come back to me swiftly and so far no wardrobe mishaps! 😂

Backstage gear ready!!

Not going to lie, I’ve been feeling quite down about freelance life recently as this year, the work seems to be more obsolete than ever 😞 I know it’s always quieter at the beginning of the year in the theatre world but also my bespoke work has been quieter than usual…
Then yesterday I received a message about some backstage work at Hull Bonus Arena on Strictly Come Dancing the Professionals tour the weekend and it’s lifted my spirits a little! It’s only a few days work but it’s something and gives me hope that freelance work in theatre might start picking up a bit ❤️
