Rachel's Creations and Alterations

Rachel's Creations and Alterations I make bespoke garments from Bridal wear to childrenswear, make alterations to existing garments and create home furnishings and other hand crafted items.

Having completed my BA Honours Fashion Degree in 2003, I have over 13 years experience in designing, pattern cutting and making up a whole range of clothing, homeware and handcrafted items. I have an extensive portfolio of completed Creations and also hundreds of Alterations aswell. Most commonly, I take up trousers, jeans, and dresses, replace broken zips in jeans, dresses and jackets, take in cl

othing or let it out to fit, take up curtains and add lining to unlined curtains. I work from home and can offer appointments in the day, evening or weekends, I have off street parking available and you are welcome to bring children if it makes your life easier.

As most of you know, I have been poorly since Christmas with my autoimmune diseases and I have been struggling with pain, fatigue and mobility issues.

I was hoping to start a slow return to work in September but unfortunately I now have Shingles which is extremely painful and has set me back somewhat.

At the moment I cannot say when I will be well enough to return to work but I still appreciate you all tagging me in posts to keep my name out there.

It has been a very frustrating year so far for me and I very lucky that I am being well looked after by my wonderful son, dear friends and my amazing Dad.

I will keep you posted, I do miss all my lovely regular customers and I am so grateful for all the lovely messages of support, cards and flowers that I have received this year. I hope to be able to see you all again before the year is out!!

Lots of love

Rachel

First of all, I would like to say a big Thank You to all my Customers for all their support. Secondly, I have been very poorly since Christmas and unable to work. I am a lot stronger than I was but it’s going to be a while until I’m well enough to take on new work. Having said that, I really do appreciate all the recommendations that you all tag me in on Facebook and would love that to continue, thank you. I am slowly starting to clear through the work I have outstanding from before Christmas which will help me to assess what I am capable of before I commit to anything going forward. I’ve had lots of lovely messages, cards and flowers all wishing me well and I am so grateful for those. Thank you to everyone for your support as always, I have such a lovely client base and feel so thankful. Hopefully it won’t be too long before I can let you know that I’m ready to resume work. Thank you all and Take Care ###

Unfortunately I am unwell with Covid and unable to work at the moment. Apologies for the delay in completing work and for the delay in replying to messages. I will update when I am well enough to work again. Thank you.

I absolutely love this video with all of the ideas included to help people with disabilities. On a personal level when my hands were red raw, painfully stiff and swollen before I started medication I would have loved to have been able to slip these shoes on and not rely on my then 6 year old to zip my boots up for me!
I have done a few clothing adaptions and creations over the years to make life easier for a few of my customers and it's been amazing to help. Simple things like the additions of zips can make all the difference.
If you see something in this video that would help you or someone you know, or you have an idea that you think would help you then please get in touch.

Just wanted to say hi and give you all an update! It was lovely to get back to more normal working hours last week. I've loved my 6.5 weeks with my son home in the holidays but working until between midnight and 1am every night takes its toll! My focus is still currently on the alterations that need doing for the upcoming Weddings, after September things should ease off a bit but I want to say thank you to all my amazing customers who have been so patient whilst I've had to prioritise the wedding work.
Since I was allowed to resume fittings on the 12th April, I have made a Wedding Dress and matching Jacket, finished making a Blouse, made a Jumpsuit, altered 10 Wedding Dresses, 25 Bridesmaid Dresses (including accommodating 4 unexpected baby bumps!), altered 7 pairs of curtains, made 6 masks and completed 116 other alterations and repairs! Phew!
As always, thank you to everyone for recommending me, giving me your custom and generally just being amazing and supportive, thank you!

Just an update from me to say that I will still be asking my customers to wear a mask and use hand sanitiser on arrival for fittings and I will also still be wearing a mask and using hand sanitiser as well as keeping the window open and cleaning in between appointments. There are a lot of Covid cases in the local area and to me it seems the sensible approach to continue with these measures for the time being. Thank you all for your understanding and support. ###

I can’t share the original post but I’ve been asked by Tash Bisp, a fellow seamstress based in Frampton (Sew Happy) if I’d like to be involved in The Clothing Repair Shop she is starting tomorrow at Nook and Cranny in Frampton Cotterell. I’m unable to be there tomorrow due to prior commitments but can’t wait to be involved. I love the ethos of saving clothes from landfill, repairing items of clothing and extending their use, repurposing etc.

If you have any small repairs that need doing free of charge (small holes that need a quick hand darn, hole in side seam etc) then please pop along tomorrow for Tash to have a look for you (all info in the pics below!).

I will hopefully be able to join her for a drop in session in future. It’ll be great to work together to stop clothing waste.

I’ve managed to lose all my unsaved contacts and all my text messages in my work phone 🙈 if you’re a new customer who has recently got in touch with me or whose alterations I currently have, please can you get in touch with me to pass on your phone number again, thank you! What a 🍩 x
