I’ve been receiving a lot of last minute or shorter notice requests for bridesmaid, prom & even wedding dress alterations recently.

I am now FULLY BOOKED through summer/peak season months of 2026. I cannot physically accommodate any more with JUST me, myself & I here

Myself & other bridal/formal wear alteration specialists cannot stress enough, the importance of booking in early….months in advance for weddings & events…especially for your wedding dress!

Leaving it until just 2-3 months before the big day or even a couple of weeks in a few cases recently is really going to limit your options & might mean you won’t be able to work with the seamstress of your choice or locality.

Like any other supplier:
- Read reviews⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
- Ask friends for recommendations💕
- Check out websites & socials
- Trust the recommended suppliers lists - I, SewSuz, am on three that I’m aware of BUT ultimately do your research to find the seamstress for you! Many suppliers are recommended for numerous reasons but ALWAYS do your own research aswell!!! …be sure! & make sure to book early to avoid disappointment later on!

I advise all of my brides to consider their bridesmaids ( whether with myself or elsewhere) at the initial stages of enquiry. During peak season I will now only book (in advance please!) & work with bridesmaids of the brides I work with. Please, however, be aware that last minute requests are not always possible to accommodate.

WHEN SHOULD I BOOK FOR MY BRIDAL ALTERATIONS?

If you’re a or know someone who is planning their big day make sure to share this with them!

As a small, one woman, home based business I work strictly *BY APPOINTMENT ONLY* with a limited capacity/workload.

As the saying goes, the early bird catches the worm! BOOKING IN ADVANCE IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED whether with me, SewSuz, or any other Bridal alterations specialist; this could be as soon as you buy or order your gown(s)/outfit(s) &/or have your wedding date. As with any other wedding supplier spaces are limited & last minute requests, especially during peak season, cannot always be accommodated.
*Wedding date required to book.

A first fitting with me, SewSuz, is usually scheduled for around 8 weeks before your wedding date with a second fitting around 4weeks before. Some dresses may require 3 or more fittings which cannot always be foreseen but will be booked in appropriately. This can vary with the required alterations or certain circumstances BUT…booking in advance regardless is advised!
This includes bridesmaids & mothers too! -I’ve limited appointments & sewing time & cannot accommodate all requests to add on extras at a later date so do consider them too as advised from the start of the booking process.

*A booking fee applies for all bridal, bridesmaids & formal wear (per dress) upon confirmation of appointments & no booking is confirmed without it.. Alterations are charged separately.

A question that has been asked or worried about by some of my brides recently….
WHAT IF I NEED MORE, LESS &/OR DIFFERENT ALTERATIONS TO THOSE ANTICIPATED UPON BOOKING?

They will be accommodated! I always anticipate some wiggle room for fit alterations & if extra appointments are required we work those in too.
Sometimes alterations are straightforward with minimal appointments required & sometimes breaking down the process is beneficial but every body & gown is different!
*Within reason of course; some last-minute bespoke changes might not always be possible with time constraints & just myself here BUT I’m always happy to discuss prior to or during your 1st fitting …. if you don’t ask you don’t get!

Sometimes bodies change or other factors come in to play unexpectedly…we’re all human & if it needs attention, I will talk you through the options.
If something does change, you’re worried about the fit or need to advise me of something that may affect alterations please reach out. Pictures are always welcomed to assist these queries.

Costs will be advised but do bear in mind all estimates & anticipated alterations at booking stage are subject to seeing the dress upon fitting.
This means costs can go up & in some cases down but extra work on your gown will be accommodated & charged appropriately where required.
I will never pressure you into an alteration you are unsure of or do not need, only advise. In some cases, it may be a case of going away to think about it & seeing how everything fits & most importantly feels at your next fitting.

Ultimately you need to feel comfortable & confident in your gown...that's what makes it YOURS!

*Please be aware additional garments/gowns will likely require additional appointment(s) time to fit & will be subject to additional booking fee.

Steaming & pressing…it’s hot work🥵 but the results are so worth it!

I offer steaming as an add on service separate to alterations. Pricing varies depending on the dress.

I advise in all of my correspondence from the first email to HANG YOUR DRESS USING THE HANGER LOOPS! But please don’t hang on delicate straps which can stretch over time.

If you’ve been told to keep your dress in a box until alterations & my favourite line of “it won’t crease because we folded it in a special way” please get it out & get it hanging. Straighten out all the layers & if they’re still wild get it booked in.

A creased dress can make pinning hems a little more time consuming battling through & around the layers, especially larger gowns, heavy satin & mikado fabrics &/or those with layers of stiff crinoline netting underneath.

I offer a steaming/pressing service ahead of your 1st fitting to get everything straight making pinning hems much easier & more accurate. Email reminders are sent 4 weeks and 1 week before your 1st fitting. Not all dresses will require this but I’m always happy to advise with pictures if possible.

Steaming can also be added on to your alterations or after alterations are complete. All details will be in your confirmation & 4week reminder emails😉

I have been sat on some photos for way to long & Megan is my first of many to share for a while🫣

Megan came to me following rejections from a couple of other seamstresses who claimed the dress couldn’t be altered…not true. Backless dresses can be challenging but fit can be improved bearing in mind that there will always be less support than a dress that’s higher in the back…

Alterations to gorgeous gown from 14 and Sixpence Bridal included:
-Bust darts
-Chain tacks to hold the lining and train together whilst walking

Just a little behind the scenes & proof I’m still here🫣

Here I am transforming the studio from fitting space to work space after a busy day & a half of fittings😅 The season is well & truly in full swing here & I’ve worked with so many wonderful brides this season already…if you’ve already wed please make sure to tag your seamstress & I’d love to see photos of your dress in action💕

Transforming the studio involves moving the rails, moving the table (on wheels), reorganising dresses I need to work on this week, getting the press/ironing table set up, moving mannequins & various other items as well as vacuuming & cleaning the floor before fittings & often in between & every morning too🥵 Please where possible keep to your pre-scheduled appointments as sewing time is now at a premium🫶🏻

It’s been a busy few weeks with the foreseeable months looking just as busy.

*Available 1st fittings in August & September are now limited & I have a planned 2 weeks off of fittings at the end of august to spend some of the summer with my children who are so patient & allow me the time to work on your beautiful dresses…they need a bit of me too💕

2027…YES THE DIARY IS OPEN for weddings through to the end of July with several 2027 weddings already confirmed! Later dates will be opened soon but please feel free to enquire☺️
