Although it looks almost identical in this photo we are now in at our new studio/barn. We have a lot more space than before which is good and the light seems good too. I haven’t posted for a long while but here are a few of our latest arrivals. It was love at first sight with the chairs, we may re-rush the seats eventually but for now are really enjoying them as they are, I don’t really want to touch a hair on their pretty little heads as they are so god damn original and beautiful! The pine cricket table is an unusual one too with the integral drawer in the apron. As ever we always buy portraits that we are drawn to, this one is no exception. It is unsigned but has something about it. We also have a lot of other stock to process but for now what we need to do is get into the space and have a good old fashioned tidy up to make it a bit more usable. As ever give us a shout if you are interested in anything.

Happy folky New Year folks. Happy folky new pieces here, just touched down in the studio, a primitive European pine bench and a couple of tramp art frames with their original photographs in. One with sailors on a ship which was found behind a 1950s print. What a joy to find! Also a glimpse of a giant wicker basket. All should be hitting the website in 2026 but as ever let me know if interested in any of it.

Rocking around the Christmas tree, a good solid oak arts and crafts rocking chair with the most wonderful shimmering medullary rays in the grain. Probably American in origin and of the Mission Arts and Crafts School in the manner of Gustav Stickley. Seems to effortlessly fit with the Dutch Expressionist Still Life Oil, neither are on the website yet so let me know if interested in either, or both. Merry Christas Everyone.

This cheeky chappy is busy plotting how to spoil Christmas, although gnomes and elves are related they feel distinctly different about the annual holiday, apparently! Standing in at two foot five inches you better watch out. Coming from a Buckinghamshire Manor House and probably originating in Germany he is available to purchase, if you dare, and perfect for planting up with a strawberry plant. A rather more grown up and stylish offering is this J.P. White Arts and crafts bench he is stood in front of. With the current rate time is flying, Spring is yet a blink of an eye away! Neither are on the website yet so let us know if you are interested in either, or both. Merry Christmas everyone!!!!

Fresh off of the van, a few new pieces in the studio. I have always loved a piece of furniture that has lived a life and this higgledy piggledy asymmetric pine cupboard in its original combed paint is no exception. Matched with this mid century bohemian feel bamboo and woven rattan mirror, they seem to compliment each other like butter on toast. Topped off with a bulbous horse bronze, slightly reminiscent of Botero, yes please. None of them are on the website quite yet so shout if interested.

Evening sunlight studio shot. A glimpse through the shadows at a few of our newer items. The french marquetry inlaid fruitwood buffet seems to grow in size every time I encounter it. The Dutch toleware coffee canister is a whopper and the pair of Liberty country house curtains seem to have acres of fabric, I love it when they are too long and pool on the floor like this. As always reach out if you are interested in any of it. Have a happy weekend!

A romantic portrait of the famous Welsh actress Sarah Siddons (1755-1831). Siddons was the best-known tragedienne of the 18th Century, and her most notable role was as Lady Macbeth. The contemporaneous critic William Hazlitt dubbed Siddons “tragedy personified”. Her portrait was painted countless times by the great and good during the 18th/19th century. Our portrait was probably painted by a student of the Royal College of Art in 1888 based on another in the collection of The South Kensington Museum (Now the V&A) and it’s available so let us know if your interested.

Fresh in… a collection of 14 original 1950s portrait drawings of Hollywood and French film stars , would look great framed as a collection on a feature wall. My favourites got to be Marlon Brando for sure, but there are some other corkers in there too. Most are titled, some are not, so far we have identified Marlon Brando, Gary Cooper, Clarke Gable, Rita Hayworth and Ingrid Bergman on the Hollywood side and Martine Carol, Pierre Frenay, Jean Pierre Armort, Jean Marais, Jean Cherrier and Dany Robin from the French side of the pond. We believe the final three could potentially be Lucille Ball, Jene Simmons, and not sure of the final one, but definitely has a striking resemblance to Princess Margaret…
All by the same hand, and most are signed Petrovitch. From a few inscriptions, we have identified that the artist was Etienne Petrovitch, and his address was  5 Rue Claude Matrat, Issy-les-Molineaux, Hautes-de-Seine, on the outskirts of Paris. There is also an inscription on one that talks about a ‘regiment’. The only Etienne Petrovitch I can find of the period is Etienne Pedro Petrovitch (1909-1989), who was born in Romania and fought for the French Resistance in WWII, so it would make sense to be by his hand. They date from the early 1950s period, circa 1951-1953.

Le Boxeur - original French portrait photograph, probably 1930s in date, love the subject, the blurred naturalistic background and love the original shaped red felted velvety mount. As was typical of the time the photographer has hand highlighted highlights in white and shadows in pencil. A real work of art, I distinctly signed to the lower left. Now available on the website.

A lovely pair of jugs or a lovely pair of melons? A double double entendre? Or a quadruple entendre? Not sure that Danish designer/silversmith Christian Fjerdingstad had that in his mind when creating this timeless art deco design in 1926. Sometimes known as the Melone jug for obvious reasons it is a corker of a design, especially in this hammered finish. Effortlessly timeless and made for Christofle, Paris. They are available on the website individually or even better as a pair.
