Day 7 - Historical ✨ We're absolutely loving historical patterns, finding endless inspiration in them, and sometimes, we even recreate them with a modern twist! Bargello or lozenge bag? Why just admire them when you can own your version of history?

Experiment - Day 6 of challenge by seam collective

Part of our job in textile conservation is to find out what that stain is, whether the thread will bleed, or if we need to dye the threads to match the original ones as much as possible.
Vinegar baths, strong coffee and tea staining to 100% alcohol on cotton bud cleaning.
This is the most experimental side it's a wild ride, and sometimes feels impossible!

"Caring" is the theme for Day 5 of seam collective's September challenge.
Caring for us is continuity, like this christening gown that has been in our client's family for generations. We are honoring the caring through conservation, tending to it with the same tenderness it once received—preserving the story for the next chapter.

We missed by seam collective in previous years, but this year we're on a roll, and the first challenge is introductions! We're Katarina and Chloe, textile, fiber, and embroidery artists working together on the kit and textile conservation/restoration side of the business. We met pre-Covid when Katarina signed up for a crewel work class and, somehow, refused to leave and stayed!

Color - theme of day 3 of the challenge by .

It sounds weird, but our own art practices are quite minimalistic in color, so when designing kits, we go all out and have fun with colors. Sometimes so much that we have to tone it down.
We are talking about the glow-in-the-dark threads.

Storytelling theme for day 4 of by seam collective.

We are not just knit designers but also textile conservators, and the pieces that come to us tell their story: by whom they were made, how they were made based on the stitcher's interest, and also how they were cared for.

In this particular sampler, we can tell that the young stitcher wasn't really interested, as almost every seventh to tenth stitch was facing the other direction. We could literally feel her "I don't want to do this, I'd rather be elsewhere."

Katarina usually takes a lot of photos of each project we are working on. She tracks the progress and just loves the weird angles of the item, as she loves the relief structure of each embroidered flower, each stitch. Some of them are planned, and some of them just happen. Like the September subbox cottage garden travel case in progress, it just looks so stunning to see the flower growing from the fabric.

Yes, she uses the cheery needleminder while working on the project. That was an excellent creation. Cute and very practical.

The September box is available to pre-order until September 20th.

A fun project the a cottage garden travel needle case full of flowers. Bluebells, marigolds, poppies, and cornflowers are framed by a border of forget-me-knots, all finished on a hand-painted watercolor edge.

A practical felt pocket inside is perfect for storing your scissors, needles, and pins.

Our September subbox design is part of the Cottage Garden collection. It's a small travel needle case with a felt pocket to fit your scissors, a few needles, and pins—everything you need for your travels.
The September subbox is available for pre-order now.

P.S. It was so pretty that Katarina was thinking for a while that she would take a stitchy project with her just to take the travel case along.

Is it possible that with all that is going on and what we are busy with, we nearly forgot that it is World Embroidery Day?

Embroidery means so much to us, not just as a source of income. It is our passion, hobby, therapy, creative outlet, and something that is deeply rooted within us. Honestly, we can't imagine a world without it.

Happy World Embroidery Day!
